Casey has 18-point lead over Santorum in latest poll (52-34)
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06172/700015-100.stm

Bob Casey's lead over U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum has stretched to 18 percentage points since early May, as Mr. Casey picked up new support and the Republican incumbent's approval rating skidded to a four-year low, according to a poll released today.

Mr. Casey, Pennsylvania's Democratic state treasurer, leads Mr. Santorum 52 to 34 percent --- the biggest margin since October, when the numbers were the same, according to the Quinnipiac University poll.

Only 38 percent of the respondents said they approved of the way Mr. Santorum, the third-ranking Republican in the Senate, is handling his job. Forty-five percent said they disapproved and 16 percent did not express an opinion.

It was the first time the senator's approval rating had dropped below 40 percent since Quinnipiac began measuring it in June 2002. It also was the latest sign of distress for the outspoken conservative, an ally of President Bush on issues that included a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and private savings accounts for Social Security.

1. That's too bad....
It's a pity he's going to lose.

I mean Gore was leading. He lost.
Kerry was leading. He lost.

I'm starting to think it's a trend. Whatever could be the cause of it?

I hope he kicks Sanctamonious' ass.

2. Kerry was NOT leading in the pre-election polls.
I realize that exit polls are supposed to be more accurate, but the fact is that the average of the pre-election polls had Bush winning by about 2%. Very few pre-election polls had Kerry winning, Fox News was one of them.

We did well in 05 (VA, NJ, CA) and we can do well in 06.

9. No Dem leading in Pennsyvania has lost Pennsylvania.

And Gore and Kerry had much smaller leads in PA than Casey does now and still won. Pennsylvania's not the state we need to worry about the most here. The problem is, how much will Casey be winning by? He'll be polling close to 20% leads, but i'll be surprised if he gets 10.

4. I expect that we will see
the house that Santorum never lived in

come on the market the day after the election. And of course, we will have the newest member of the Republican lobby party hard at work on K street.

5. If new low poll numbers for Bush prompt Atrios to give out ponies...
...what can we do to mark Santorum's poll numbers going into the tank?

I humbly submit:
