Criticism of policies riles Bush at summit
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 07:18 AM by leftchick
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/world/14875509.htm

VIENNA, Austria - President Bush, visibly annoyed over complaints that his policies had added to global insecurity, fired back at his European critics Wednesday even as he and international leaders joined forces to work against nuclear weapons in North Korea and Iran.

Bush and top officials from the European Union united in demanding that Iran suspend uranium-enrichment programs that could be used to develop nuclear weapons. They also agreed that Iran should respond quickly to Bush's call for international negotiations designed to limit Iran's nuclear activities. And they insisted that North Korea should not test a missile, as it is threatening to do.

<snip>

Although diplomatic relations between the United States and Europe have improved significantly since the rift over the Iraq war in 2003, Bush remains widely unpopular in Europe. A recent poll found that many Europeans consider the United States a threat to global stability.

``That's absurd,'' Bush snapped when asked, in general terms, about the poll results. His irritation grew when an Austrian reporter read him some specific poll numbers.

``Look, people didn't agree with my decision on Iraq, and I understand that. For Europe, Sept. 11 was a moment; for us, it was a change of thinking,'' he said. ``People can say what they want to say. But leadership requires making hard choices based upon principle.''

15. I know we call him "frat boy", but..
seriously, he really is an example of arrested development. You can see that every time he opens his yap. That's in addition to other, more serious pathologies. Why is there no one in the entire world, in a position to do something about it, who will speak the truth on this?

Which raises another issue: Why do other countries go along with the ravings of this madman? "Bush and top officials from the European Union united in demanding that Iran suspend uranium-enrichment programs... "

I've asked this here before, and never get a response. This is not a rhetorical question. Even in terms of realpolitik there must be a reason why other countries are willing to go along with the pretense that he has anything of value to say to anyone. The PEOPLE of just about every country on the planet loathe him. Yet their leaders kiss his ass. Couldn't someone say, "Excuse me, Mr. shit-for-brains, but Iran is permitted to enrich uranium under the NPT"? :banghead:

I don't understand it.

And why have things improved between the U.S. & Europe since the invasion of Iraq? What made things better? Re this:

...Although diplomatic relations between the United States and Europe have improved significantly since the rift over the Iraq war in 2003, Bush remains widely unpopular in Europe...

Visit just about any barber shop, WalMart, Baptist Church - you name it, almost any gathering spot in huge swaths of this country - you'll experience dozens -- hundreds -- of people who regularly drink his KoolAid. It looks like his incompetence may finally be taking a toll on his poll numbers but look how long -- and how many lives -- it has taken.

41. My belief is that it is because they are all in it together
It doesn't matter what they think of the idiot chimp personally, they are still after the same goals.

One very good example of this is when 9-11 happened, not only was the US ready and waiting with your patriot act, but MANY other countries had similar bills all prepared and ready to enact. Canada passed a huge one far too soon after 9-11 for it to have been written after that event, bills like that are months or even longer in the making. But was that fact ever brought up or questioned by any of the "opposing" politicians or any of the "fair and balanced" media? Not likely. The opposition would have passed the very same bill had they been in power, and the media is the propaganda arm of the government.

Somehow I rely on the belief that other world leaders probably have some sort of moral compass.

More likely they're just looking out for themselves and their own narrow interests.

45. Why ?
Because we have enough nuclear weapons to annihilate this whole world three times over. We are currently too strong for them to take us down, which is too bad because it is high time we went back to being a European colony. We did okay in the autonomous vein for a couple of hundred years but we've lost our way, our moral compass is broken.

the press doesn't act like lapdogs. Also, for Bush and his minions, 9/11 became an opportunity to use politically, take the oil, and take away civil rights at home. That was not what 9/11 meant. I wish someone would tell him this.

I want to throw a Newspeak dictionary at him and yell "Swine!"

I go to an International School (I won't be in a week *sigh*) and there are a total of two people in the entire school who support Bush. Although these two are reasonable and generally likaeable people, it really shows you how much he's really disliked. There are children from about 50 different countries here (a lot of US kids, there's a few bases around) and he's really not well recieved at ALL. You mention Bush in a classroom and the Brazillian joke is told. It makes me shmile. But the joke is old and dead.
