Family upset military lied about nature of son's death

Two years ago, when the bodies of Patrick McCaffrey and his supervisor, Lt. Andre Tyson, were brought back from Iraq, their families were told they were killed in an enemy ambush near Balad. But the soldiers in Alpha Company told a more troubling story.

...

What happened, the military now says, is that McCaffrey and Tyson were killed by the very Iraqi soldiers they were training and out on patrol with.

...

McCaffrey has become an outspoken critic of the war. She said her son often spoke to her of the danger just weeks before his death, telling her he had been fired on by the troops he was helping to train

"He said, ‘Mom, we are in danger constantly’. He said, ‘I don't know when I wake up how long I'm going to stay alive,’” she said.

McCaffrey's father is angry about how his son died. As he put it, what's going on in Iraq is all a pack of lies.

1. It is considered acceptable to lie because
those in government hold to the Utilitarian Doctrine, the Death and Destruction of Iraq is for "The Greater Good" and since the greater good of a far off utopian democratic iraq will always hold sway in their minds.

Therefore, the deaths of thousands of Americans and then shamelessly using those deaths to promote themselves and the war is acceptable.

The loss of eyes, limbs and over 18000 wounded is acceptable.

All methods to "get the bad guys" are permissible.

Every Iraqi who dies is dying for democracy and every Iraqi should be willing to sacrifice his son and daughter.

2. Its just a PAT TILLMANN ----Redux
WASHINGTON - The first Army investigator who looked into the death of former NFL player Pat Tillman in Afghanistan last year found within days that he was killed by his fellow Rangers in an act of “gross negligence,” but Army officials decided not to inform Tillman’s family or the public until weeks after a nationally televised memorial service.

A new Army report on the death shows that top Army officials, including the theater commander, Gen. John Abizaid, were told days before the service that Tillman’s death was caused by “friendly fire.”

Soldiers on the scene said they were immediately sure Tillman, a San Jose native, was killed by a barrage of American bullets as he took shelter behind a large boulder during a twilight firefight along a narrow canyon road near the Pakistani border, according to nearly 2,000 pages of interview transcripts and investigative reports obtained by the Washington Post.

The documents also show that officers made erroneous initial reports that Tillman was killed by enemy fire, destroyed critical evidence and initially concealed the truth from Tillman’s brother, also an Army Ranger, who was near the attack on April 22, 2004, but did not witness it.

4. Upset? She needs to learn how to laugh.
Pentagon to families: Go ahead, laugh
By Gregg Zoroya, USA TODAY

When the stress of the war in Iraq becomes too severe, the Pentagon has a suggestion for military families: Learn how to laugh.

With help from the Pentagon's chief laughter instructor, families of National Guard members are learning to walk like a penguin, laugh like a lion and blurt "ha, ha, hee, hee and ho, ho."

No joke.

"I laugh every chance I get," says the instructor, retired Army colonel James "Scotty" Scott. "That's why I'm blessed to be at the Pentagon, where we definitely need a lot of laughter in our lives."

9. My God, is that article for real?
I heard a story years ago that Earth was originally peopled by a planet from outer space who took all their insane people and dropped them off on Earth to fend for themselves. It must be true.
