8. That lead makes me remember
A very non-PC song by David Allen Coe. Title was Fuck Anita Bryant. Won't go into the lyrics, they would cause WAY too many flames. But the sentiment is right on. I say Fuck Anybody who tries to tell someone else how to live their life. I spent too many years guarding the right of free speech to not allow someone to tell somebody else off.

Anita could have her beliefs. I have mine. I won't go spouting mine in her ears, and I'd expect the same courtesy in return. But I'd probably have those expectations dashed.

13. Hi, JeffR, Sidnie, and Big Mike. I was always surprised that Anita Bryant
sold so many recordings.

When she began her public campaign to denounce homosexuals she told the press she received death threats for taking a stand.

Asked about this, Gore Vidal said in an interview (paraphrased): "I doubt it. The only people who might want to see Anita Bryant dead are music lovers."

FBI Conducts Terrorism-Related Investigation In Liberty City

LIBERTY CITY, Fla. - Federal agents are conducting a terrorism-related investigation in Liberty City. Agents were at the Scott housing projects in the area of 15th Avenue and Northwest 62nd Street.

Several streets were cordoned off during the search.

A Miami Police Department SWAT team assisted federal agents in the search. Armed agents could be seen in the area.

Several warrants were served at the housing complex, NBC 6's Patricia Andreu reported.

...that has been misidentified by avowed racists as a "ghetto", I know from first-hand experience that the fascists and thugs and terrorists like to exploit low-income and especially black or integrated communities in order to "dirty up" black communities.

This shit is getting really old, and so is your propaganda.

It has no relationship to what happens in reality.

Terrorism is connected to the drug trade, which is in turn run by fascists and governed by racists.

88. It would make a maggot gag. These Miami terrorists have already
MURDERED people, and they are running around loose, real local heroes to certain elements in this country.

To refresh anyone's memory who doesn't remember this story:
Previous criminality is pertinent

Background of Alvarez and Mitat is relevant to their impending trial, prosecutors affirm

From Progreso Weekly staff

As reported by The Associated Press on April 14, two Miami Cubans, Santiago Alvarez Magriña and Osvaldo Mitat, "allegedly planned and launched a commando raid against Fidel Castro's government in 2001 and maintained an arsenal in the Bahamas for future attacks, U.S. prosecutors said in a court document."

The document was filed Monday, March 27, at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, but its contents were released only last week. It was submitted by the federal prosecutors as a "response in opposition to the defendants' motion to exclude extrinsic-acts evidence," in other words, to explain to the judge why the defendants' previous criminal actions were relevant to the current charges of weapons possession and why those actions should be admitted in evidence.

"Alvarez and Mitat, both 64, are scheduled to stand trial May 8 in federal court in Fort Lauderdale on weapons charges," the AP report continued. "The case stems from the discovery of other stashes of military hardware at a Broward County apartment complex owned by Alvarez and in a large cooler being transported to Miami from the apartments. Both have pleaded not guilty and are being held without bail."

There's another twist to the case, the AP revealed. "After Alvarez's arrest last year, an informant told the FBI that Alvarez had a large cache of weapons on Guinchos Cay, an island in the Bahamas about 12 miles from Cuba," the agency reported. "In August 2005, the Coast Guard discovered numerous guns, grenades, grenade launchers and about five pounds of powerful C-4 plastic explosives."

FBI raids targets in domestic terrorism probe

Thursday, June 22, 2006; Posted: 8:03 p.m. EDT (00:03 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- FBI agents were raiding sites in Miami, Florida, on Thursday in connection with a domestic terrorism investigation, law enforcement sources said.

The FBI said one search warrant was being executed in the Liberty City area of Miami. Officials said no weapons or bomb-making materials had been found in the searches so far.

"We are conducting a number of arrests and searches, and we'll have more about that when the operation is completed, probably tomorrow morning," FBI Director Robert Mueller told CNN's Larry King in an interview to be broadcast Thursday.

in the area so far.

So to recap:

Iraq: NO WMDs except possibly for one rusty old can that Santorum and Lieberman will soon be selling on eBay.

Liberty City: NO WMDs so far, either.

Crawford: No W MDs, either, 'cause the Dumbass Supreme would have washed out of pre-med his first week

So what's next for Liberty City? Prolonged bombing raids? Occupation? Sectarian strife and incipient civil war? Let's hope not...

...posing as al qaeda. I wonder whose idea it was to blow up the Sears Tower? The agents or the defendants.

<snip>

"One law enforcement source said authorities arrested seven people who allegedly were conspiring to conduct attacks in the United States -- but that there was no immediate threat.

Five of those arrested are U.S. citizens, one is a legal U.S. resident and one is an illegal alien, the source told the Miami Herald on condition of anonymity.

Citing an investigation before Thursday's raid, the source said the group talked about an attack on the Sears Tower in Chicago and the FBI building in Miami -- but that they had no ``overt explosives or other things.''

The group thought that they ''were doing (the attacks) in conjunction with al Qaeda'' but were really dealing with undercover law enforcement, the official said.

It was ''pretty much talk, we were on top of them,'' the source said."

MIAMI — FBI agents investigating terrorism-related activities were conducting a number
of raids and had made several arrests Thursday, the bureau's director said.

FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III told CNN that it was an ongoing operation and that
more details would be released Friday. Local television was reporting that agents were
raiding a warehouse in Miami's Liberty City section.

"There is no imminent threat to Miami or any other area because of these operations,"
said Richard Kolko, spokesman for FBI headquarters in Washington. He declined to comment
further.

Get wise, people - you can't bust drug dealers, fascists or terrorists without informants, undercover people and infiltrators.

I'm guessing that some of the Muslim brothers were doing that sort of work.

Lloyd Goldman and Joseph Cayre, New York investors who are among Mr. Silverstein's backers in the Trade Center, are part of a group that agreed to buy the Chicago landmark, these people said. Another New York investor, Jeffrey Feil, was also a participant in the Sears Tower deal, the people said. Names of the other investors couldn't be learned...

32. Official: 7 arrested in Sears Tower plot (per yahoo, link too)
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&u=/ap/20060623/ap_on_re_us/terrorism_investigation_5

MIAMI - Seven people were arrested Thursday in connection with the early stages of a plot to attack Chicago's Sears Tower and other buildings in the U.S., a federal law enforcement official said.

The official told The Associated Press the alleged plotters were mainly Americans with no apparent ties to al-Qaida or other foreign terrorist organizations. He spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to pre-empt news conferences planned for Friday in Washington and Miami.

Miami U.S. Attorney R. Alexander Acosta said in a statement that the investigation was an ongoing operation and that more details would be released Friday. Local media reported that agents were raiding a warehouse in Miami's Liberty City section.

"There is no imminent threat to Miami or any other area because of these operations," said Richard Kolko, an
FBI spokesman in Washington. He declined further comment...(more@link)

46. CNN: "One suspect had taken Al-Qaeda oath"
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 09:11 PM by IndianaGreen
On the Anderson Cooper show. An unnamed source says that "one suspect had taken Al-Qaeda oath." What the hell is an Al-Qaeda oath? I have never heard of it. Have any of you ever heard of this crap?

I am willing to bet that in a few weeks we will find out that there is less to this story than what they are putting out right now.

77. No kidding.
And we will never get information on whether or not they used any of their secretive and unconstitutional procedures. But the RW nutjobs will be claiming that is what "protected us."

And notice of course they are citizens, so the "aliens have no civil rights" card can't be played. They used the aliens to soften things up and now they're coming for the citizens.

But, I feel for the poor bastards arrested. Sounds like a sting that was refused and the FBI is giving itself 'good' PR and that it gives the maladministration more excuses to pry and make up what they want (home-grown 'terraists, recruited in prisons, etc., etc., and, given the times, I think many hopeless souls are going to rise up in one way or another). Asshole on CNN didn't ask any pertinent or insightful questions and says we will have (or be subject to) a press conference from Gonzales tomorrow. God, he is more obvious than a 'get this pill' commercial (some of one's guy's friends had problemes with the hockum).
Communists under your bed! Oops! 'Terraists' under your bed! FEAR! FEAR! FEAR!

71. I'll reserve judgement until I see evidence--If there will be evidence
So far from the report I read it sounds like a group of religious wierdos who got fingered by the neighbors who didn't like them trying to get their kids interested in karate classes.

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Terrorism-Investigation.html

There are three ways this could go.

One: There is evidence that these guys actually are a group of Al Queda wannabes like that crew in Canada who wanted to behead the Prime Minister. Expect Smirk and Sneer to blast this evidence to the stratosphere. Aside from the obvious distaste for Smirk & Sneer, kudos to the FBI for a job well done.

Two: There is no evidence beyond a couple of tourist brochures of the Sears tower and phone calls to somebody's cousin in Chicago. The group is quietly released a few weeks later with a warning to leave the neighbors' kids alone.

Three: There is no evidence beyond a couple of tourist brochures of the Sears tower and phone calls to somebody's cousin in Chicago. The authorities, embarrassed at hounding out a group of harmless religious nutjobs, cover their asses by saying that to release the evidence they have on these guys would compromise sources & methods. The harmless religious nutjobs are shipped off to Gitmo--out of sight out of mind.

In a normal world I'd probably go with number two but given the attitude of this administration toward human rights, my guess is number three is more likely.
