Group denies violent doctrine (Miami Seven)
The seven South Florida men accused of plotting terrorism claim to follow teachings of the Moorish Science Temple of America, a religion that blends aspects of Christianity, Judaism and Islam and stresses self-discipline through martial arts, a close friend of one of the arrested men said Friday.

Sylvain Plantin, 30, a distant cousin and friend of indicted group member Stanley Grant Phanor, said the group's leader, Narseal Batiste, followed the religious teachings of the Prophet Noble Drew Ali, who founded the Moorish Science Temple.

''I never joined the group, but I went to a couple of Bible studies'' at the warehouse on Northwest 15th Avenue that was raided by federal agents, Plantin said.

``I never heard him talk about explosives or guns. He only talked about defending themselves. If I'd have heard that, believe me, I'd have been the first to call 911.''

2. Looks like the FBI has a history with these guys:
Moorish Science Temple of America

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moorish_Science_Temple_of_America

"During World War II, the Science Temple (specifically the Kirkman-Bey faction) got the attention of the FBI, who falsely suspected the Moors of collaborating with the Japanese. No doubt doctrines and prophecies that the world order would one day invert and put the Asiatics of the world back in charge, as was, the Temple taught, the original order of things, sounded woefully suspicious to the anti-Japanese mindset of the times. The FBI created a file on the organization which grew to 3,117 pages, but produced no evidence of any connection or even much sympathy between the Empire of Japan and the Temple."

4. Sounds like buffoons to me, IMHO
It pains me to write this, but I fear that this is yet another example of "success by spin" in the GWOT.

These guys sound like clueless wackos talking big fish stories to make themselves sound important to themselves, and maybe to a "bad guy" they "contacted". Gee -- two of the things they asked the (fake) Al Qaeda rep were for "uniforms" and "army boot." Huh? Since when does Al Qaeda wear uniforms while carrying out operations? These guys sound even more idiotic as the New Black Panther Party (google them and see).

IMHO -- to call these guys "small fry" exaggerates their importance enormously. How Alberto can go on tv and lie to make this seem like a major victory is, um, characteristic, although bizarre. I suspect they are just irrelevant wackos. Which are the best thing the Bush administration can come up with. Moussaoui is barking mad and merely pretending to be a player.... The Big Goose that they produced a few years back -- who was the source of most of the Terra Alerts we Americans were subjected to in 2003 -- was a mentally ill man who said crazy things under torture. The boys at Guantanamo? -- small fry at BEST, and likely patsies, or victims of local (Afghani) vendettas. And Al-Zaqawri -- another bogeyman symbolic target -- we'll see, and the sad thing is, the insurgency continues strongly despite the "amazing achievement" of his death by bombing.

HEY FOLKS -- this pitiful shit is *the best they can come up* with as "victories" in this insane war. D'yah feel safer? D'yah think we're winning? D'yah think the Bush administration has the slightest clue about dealing with terrorism on American soil? D'yah thin k they have the slightest clue about dealing with terrorism in Iraq or Afghanistan?

PREDICTION (remember you hear it first from humble chookie): Although the Bushistas crow about how there has not been an attack on American soil since Sept 11 201 -- and how this shows that George and Dick and Condi and Don are SO on top of things as regarding keeping Amerika safe -- we all KNOW that if an attack occurs tomorrow, or next week, or next month, or whatever -- these same sons of bitches (apologies toreal sons of bitches, who are not so bad as these Bush Crime Family monsters) will be shouting that the recent attack affirms the need of America to be lead by "strong and decisive men" like George and Dick and Condi and Don. Watch for it....

PS -- these pathetic and irrelevant creeps are *the best they can do*. Meanwhile, a 6'4 Saudi mastermind remains utterly elusive. I'm not content -- are you?

5. Moving on to phase 2.
The media is taking this and running with it big time. There already calling them a cell even though there is no evidence there so called terrorist plans got past pure fantasy stage. They had no money or explosives and no connection to al-qaida till they met and undercover agent pretending to be al-qaida. I for one think this is complete B.S., and this has vary scary implications. Now the focus has been turned away from terrorist overseas to the homegrown variety. Listen to the questions the media asking the family and Friends. "Does he hate the Bush Administration?", is one of the most frequent questions They ask. How long till anti-war activists start showing up on the radar as terrorist groups. We have to stay vigilant make sure they men get there day in court.

6. My question is
to what extent was this threat caused by the FBI agent's words and actions?

17. Yes it is.
There is very little that the Python's haven't parodied or lampooned in their careers. Watch it if you have the chance. Not everyone thinks they are funny though. But then again, those people probably like rush limbaugh.

10. this is dangerous in one respect...
...I believe it is an indication that the WH is ready to ignite a race war against America's black muslim men. I have long feared this possibility, as I read some writings a few years ago about the "problem" of so many black men turning to Islam while in our prison gulags. I always thought the wingnuts would hold this as a possibility when they needed a race war for political reasons.

11. Doubt on US terror plotters (Sunday Telegraph)
Doubt on US terror plotters

June 25, 2006
THE plot sounded menacing: a group of home-grown terrorists with sinister codenames seeking help from Al-Qaeda to attack America's tallest building, the 103-storey Sears Tower in Chicago.

But as more details emerge of a supposed terror plot interrupted by US authorities, the plotters and their half-baked plan seem less than deadly, and more than a little ridiculous.

The seven alleged plotters were mostly unemployed men from a poor suburb of Miami who had no weapons, explosives or money.

They were so disorganised that they asked their "Al-Qaeda" contact for uniforms and boots for their "Islamic army", as well as a camera to take pictures of their target.

A man the plotters thought was an Al-Qaeda representative turned out to be an undercover agent who gave them limited assistance: he took their shoe sizes and provided them with boots, but failed to provide other items allegedly requested by the suspects: guns, vehicles, $A70,000 cash and bulletproof vests.
(snip/...)

14. This kinda reminds me of those I think they were Pakistani...
students who were arrested on terrorism charges. The evidence was that they actually VIDEOTAPED their vacation, I think at Disney World. Now, is it just me, or does this sound like a similar situation, but with entrapment thrown in?

15. Another of Attorney General Gonzales's claims is proven false
The Government has no case, other than their informant who was nothing but a provocateur, as he was on a previous case in 2001.
