Iraqi PM Presents Reconciliation Plan, Calls for Timeline for Iraqi Troops to Handle Security
By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA

BAGHDAD, Iraq Jun 25, 2006 (AP)— Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki presented his 28-point national reconciliation plan to parliament Sunday, a document that calls for setting a timeline for Iraqi troops to take control of security throughout the country.

In the south of Iraq, the first of Japan's force of 600 soldiers started pulling out of the country, crossing the border into Kuwait, according to Associated Press reporters and the Japanese Defense Agency

The Japanese withdrawal began with the departure of about 15 vehicles transporting trucks, bulldozers and equipment from the provincial capital of Samawah early Sunday morning for the 210 mile journey south to Kuwait. Japanese troops were conducting a humanitarian and reconstruction mission in the area.

Al-Maliki's reconciliation plan called for a timeline established for Iraqi forces to take over all security duties in the country. It included no specifics on the withdrawal of American and British forces, a Shiite lawmaker told The Associated Press.

2. Iraq PM wants timeline on security handoff
June 25, 2006

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki offered an olive branch to insurgents who join in rebuilding
Iraq and said Sunday that lawmakers should set a timeline for the Iraqi military and police to take control of security nationwide.

<snip>

Al-Maliki's 24-point national reconciliation plan also would include an amnesty for insurgents and opposition figures who have not been involved in terrorist activities. Al-Maliki declared, however, that insurgent killers would not escape justice regardless of whether their victims were coalition forces or Iraqis.

"The launch of this national reconciliation initiative should not be read as a reward for the killers and criminals or acceptance of their actions. No, one thousand times no. There can be no agreement with them unless they face the justice," he said.

The new Iraqi leader, in power just more than a month, said he was realistic about the difficult road that lay ahead.

"We realize that there is a legion of those who have tread the path of evil (who) ... will continue with their criminal acts," he said.

Bush promised to stay the course. Seems we've stayed past the course. Looks like it's time to go.

3. Bush wants to go on HIS timeline,
not the Iraqi government's. What would he do if the Iraqi Government flat out said "Get Out by such and such a date." I don't think Bush would.

4. Iraqi PM wants to know exactly when we plan to 'cut and run'
I guess the Iraqi PM was in favor of the Kerry/Feingold bill.

Why does the Iraqi PM want us to cut and run?

Doesn't he know we're waiting for them to 'stand up' so we can 'stand down'?

5. Iraqi PM Sets No Deadline for U.S. Exit
Iraq's prime minister unveiled a 24-point national reconciliation initiative Sunday, offering amnesty to insurgents who renounce violence and have not committed terror attacks on American soldiers or Iraqis.

Nouri al-Maliki's much-anticipated plan lacked important details, but issued specific instructions to Iraqi security forces to rapidly take control of the country so U.S. and other foreign troops can leave eventually. It didn't include a deadline for their withdrawal.
