SPACE.com: Huge Asteroid to Fly Past Earth July 3
Huge Asteroid to Fly Past Earth July 3

Mon Jun 26

An asteroid possibly as large as a half-mile or more in diameter is rapidly approaching the Earth. There is no need for concern, for no collision is in the offing, but the space rock will make an exceptionally close approach to our planet early on Monday, July 3, passing just beyond the Moon's average distance from Earth.

Astronomers will attempt to get a more accurate assessment of the asteroid's size by “pinging” it with radar.

And skywatchers with good telescopes and some experience just might be able to get a glimpse of this cosmic rock as it streaks rapidly past our planet in the wee hours Monday. The closest approach occurs late Sunday for U.S. West Coast skywatchers.

The asteroid, designated 2004 XP14, was discovered on Dec. 10, 2004 by the Lincoln Laboratory Near Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR), a continuing camera survey to keep watch for asteroids that may pass uncomfortably close to Earth.

Although initially there were concerns that this asteroid might possibly impact Earth later this century and thus merit special monitoring, further analysis of its orbit has since ruled out any such collision, at least in the foreseeable future....

1. Old news
The year 1994: From out of space comes a runaway
planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon,
unleashing cosmic destruction. Man's civilization is
cast in ruin.

Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn...

A strange new world rises from the old: a world of
savagery, super science, and sorcery. But one man
bursts his bonds to fight for justice! With his companions
Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength,
his courage, and his fabulous Sunsword against the
forces of evil.

He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!

2. VERY COOL!
We saw a comet that passed that close back in like 1982. You could actually see it move against the stars if you waited a few minutes between glimpses. We were looking at it with the 6" telescope I built (including grinding the mirror) when I was in High School.

5. You ground the mirror!
Wow. I remember reading instructions on how to do that and it was totally beyond me as a preteenager. The book had these drawings of how the reflection should look when you shaded half of it or something. The plans said it would have to be worked on for hours every evening for a long, long time. I just could not commit to that, and I did not really understand it.

Did you have someone experienced to help you grind it, or did you do it all from plans?

12. Elgin had a mirror grinding shop attached to its planetarium.
And a wonderful man named Don Tuttle who taught us all how to do it!

26. 2012.
Mayan calendar abruptly ends on Dec. 29 2012.
Many "bible code" scholars have found code for "asteroid" and "end of times" with "2012"
Renowned psychic says she can't see anything past 2012.

I've had that date in my head for some time now.

Don't know.
Can't expand.
Just know what I've seen on documentaries.

29. Oops.
And oh MAN.... now there are even 8 days less until the end!

Or not.

You just never know about these multi-century predictions...

Also, after doing some reading again, it isn't necessarily an asteroid - but possibly huge solar flares. Whatever it is - they agreed it would by by FIRE this time.

p.s. - Hey. It's all downhill after 50 anyway.......

33. Considering that it's seemed UPHILL
(especially the last 5-6 years) to here, downhill or coasting on a plateau doesn't sound half bad.....

Yeah, in terms of centuries, what's a week or so? If the world ended by fire on Dec 29, 2012, who's going to be saying "Sunvabeach!! They can't do anything right!!!"?

14. Hmmm...might be why Rush made a trip to D.R. with drugs and Viagra?
After all, he did meet with GW Bush and Rove. Perhaps they told him something the rest of us don't and won't know.

Go ahead and throw me in jail! I had one helluva good time!!! And I won't be in jail after July 3. In fact, none of us will be anyway after July 3. BRAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

18. Why weren't we told this much earlier, when asteroid first discovered?
Now they tell us not to worry about it? Will its orbit be changed by its close approach to Earth? If so, will the new orbit bring an even closer encounter?

No time to worry about an asteroid hitting the Earth when the gays are causing straight couples to divorce.

23. sigh.............
and if it appears it's going to hit somewhere in the US, Pat Robertson, Falwell, and a slew of nutjob Republicans will be screaming it's because we didn't stop the gays with an amendment to the constitution!!

whatever, if it happens it happens. I believe everything is a part of the "plan". so no sweat off my back if it's humanity's time. Hope we're all ready, and don't forget the marshmallows.

Homo sapiens is approaching that limit, I think, altho I apologize to anthropologists and archaelogoists if I'm wrong.

28. If you read the right things, you would have heard of it.
If you are counting on the MSM to feed you what you need on a platter, well, consider the source.

Yes, it's orbit will be changed. No, it will not result in a closer encounter in any time frame you need to worry about.

25. oh, sheesh, NO--not w/* -- 9/11, Katrina, warming--asteroid strike?!
it is totally mind-boggling and terrifying how disasters--natural and manmade, global warming effects--are happening at the same time THE most uncaring, inhuman, inhumane, disgusting sacks of shitfly maggot cold-blooded killer warghouls are pulling their little coup d'etat. Sheesh, the way it could have been with President Gore . . .

Just pray in whatever way that the really big stuff might hold off until We The People can put COMPETENT, CARING, THINKING people in charge again--to really DEAL WITH disasters (including foreseeing them and acting accordingly!) too big for one or a few or even an entire region to handle. I don't even want to mention my sense of what's coming down . . . :scared: :argh: :smoke:
