Go after the leakers, not media - Kelly

The White House should focus on who leaked information on its secret international banking surveillance program rather than on the newspapers that reported it, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly yesterday.

"Newspapers are going to do what newspapers do. They get information, they're going to print it," Kelly said on MSNBC's "Hardball with Chris Matthews."

"What I'm surprised about is the lack of focus or attention" on those leaking the information, Kelly said.

"It seems to be a whole new cavalier attitude out there, in terms of people who are required to keep secrets, who give secrets out apparently with impunity," the city's top cop said.

3. Interesting comment for a police commissioner...shouldn't we be going
after the one breaking the law?? For instance, if the surveillance is illegal, isn't THAT the problem?

4. I think it was said yesterday, Bush has the 3 branches of
government in his pocket. there is only the press to provide oversight and that is why the Republicans are attacking the messenger. They want a cowed press. The press and the citizenry are the last bastion of freedom known as America.

Yes the press has been complacent, but they are trying to regrow a backbone. We need to stand witht he Times on this one. tell Bush and his fellow monkeys to back off.
