U.S. Training Iraqi Troops ‘As Quickly As Possible’: White House

Iraqi troops are being trained as rapidly as possible to take over security duties and move toward a U.S. withdrawal, a White House spokesman said June 28.

”The most important thing is, our forces are doing everything they can to help Iraq get trained up as quickly as possible, period,” spokesman Tony Snow told reporters.

The White House official would not say whether President George W. Bush is happy with the progress made. “The president — satisfied or dissatisfied, they’re moving as quickly as they can.”

The administration and its supporters have cited preparedness of Iraqi troops as a benchmark for reducing the U.S. troop presence, three years after the U.S.-led invasion.

1. Gee, I remember Rummy saying 2 years ago
that they had 250,000 Iraqi troops ready to fight.

Guess they aren't willing to fight to support the Puppet Government holed up with the invading forces in the Green Zone.

And I suppose they never will. See: Vietnamization.

3. I think the question needs to be what are they training those troops for?
Edited on Wed Jun-28-06 02:43 PM by shance
To be deployed to other places to aim their guns elsewhere?

Like even, the United States?

5. Too bad we don't have a free media
otherwise this sorry excuse would have been knocked down a couple of years ago. If we cannot train troops in three years, why should we be allowed to keep trying?

6. One has to wonder
There seems to be some kind of benchmark here, that says the troops are trained adequately. Adequately for WHO..or WHAT? Why can't the Iraqis determine when they are trained adequately. No one seems to be asking this question. I notice that the other countries around this world seem to feel their troops are well trained, without any input from us. This whole thing smacks of a dead tuna laying out on the ground in midday heat in Iraq.
