Ky. Governor Takes Limo Across the Street
Ky. Governor Takes Limo Across the Street
The Man Running the State of Kentucky Won't Walk Across the Street: Gov. Fletcher Takes the Limo

By ROGER ALFORD

FRANKFORT, Ky. Jun 28, 2006 (AP)— When Gov. Ernie Fletcher's day is over, he leaves his Capitol office, climbs into a Lincoln Town Car driven by a state trooper and returns to the Governor's Mansion which is just across the street.

Meanwhile, his administration is encouraging Kentuckians to get out and walk more for their health.

The Republican governor a physician by training makes no apologies for riding back and forth to work. "I think that's been a tradition for a long time," he said. "That's what security likes."

But his do-as-I-say, not-as-I-do example irks some politicians.

"I just think it's incredible," said Democratic state Sen. Ernesto Scorsone, a marathon runner and frequent critic of Fletcher. "The governor should practice what he's preaching. Otherwise it smacks of being hypocritical."

1. WTF? Across the Street?
Good God! Alabama's governor Riley, while a Republican, often invites people who are walking in the neighborhood to stop in on the lawn with his wife and have a glass of tea or lemonaid! His wife saw me picking up pecans on the sidewalk across the street with my dog and came out and got several bags herself... And Alabama has had a governor who was wounded in an assassination attempt!
Does he need a state plane to go to NYC or Washington or Chicago?
I would not wish to be the governor of a state where I could not go out in public to church or to shop or to eat out or travel freely.

4. The rumor in KY
is that Sen. Mitch McConnell has a contract out on him.

5. Really! There should be a good story behind that. Did a quick google
check to see if I could uncover the reason. Found McConnell is the one who's responsible for getting him elected, and had had very high hopes for him. I read McConnell also had sponsored Rep. Larry Hopkins, who "self-destructed" in 1991.

Saw then that McConnell is pushing Rep. Ed Whitfield as his replacement in 2007. Doesn't sound as if McConnell cares much for this creep anymore!
