Bodies of 2 missing Belgian girls found

LIEGE, Belgium (AP) -- Police found the bodies of two young sisters Wednesday and said they had been slain and left in a storm sewer after vanishing from an outdoor party in a case that has traumatized Belgians.

A convicted child rapist has been charged in the kidnapping of Stacy Lemmens, 7, and her stepsister Nathalie Mahy, 10, whose bodies were lying about 30 feet apart inside the drainage sewer. Investigators located the spot after an 18-day search, looking under thick undergrowth beside a railroad track in this gritty steel town in eastern Belgium.

"In all our hearts there is a feeling of repugnance, of sorrow and powerlessness," Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt said in a televised address to the nation. "We cannot comprehend what motivates these people."

Abdallah Aid Oud, 39, has been charged in the girls' kidnapping. He was arrested when he turned himself in June 13 but has denied involvement. Aid Oud, of North African descent, was the boyfriend of a waitress in the cafe where the girls were last seen. Police say he was in the area the night they went missing.

I hope that some day they are able to figure out what causes people to become child molesters. There has to be something, either genetic or environmental, that makes people do this. If we could only find out, perhaps we could counsel these people before they do anything horrible.

BTW, I think your avitar is an interesting one. Isn't it a combination of the pink triangle used by the Nazis to designate homosexuals and the Mogan David that was used to designate Jews? If so, an interesting statement - I believe that there are times in this country when certain elements treat gays the way Jews were treated in Nazi Germany.

I am wondering if the parents will sue (they would if in this country) because he was just released from prison for the same charge (well, not murder). This must be a terrible blow for Belgians, who have an almost 0 murder rate! They also say he was released from a mental hospital, so were their issues?

As for my avatar, it was used in Nazi Germany. More often, it was just the pink triangle, but a special one was made for gay Jews, a double whammy.

I was wondering if the avatar might mean just that. I have a very brave friend from Austin who has tatooed the pink triangle over the outline of the Lone Star State on his bicept, so his is also a sort of combination, but one that speaks more to gay pride and defiance against bigotry.

whenever a child is assaulted and/or murdered. I wasn't able to access the story, so I don't know what the evidence is that they have against Abdallah Aid Oud. But I hope they convict whoever is responsible and keeps them off the streets and away from children as long as is legally possible.
