10. Actually it is a major conflict point between Kurds and Sunnis.
The boundaries of the defacto kurdistan have Kirkurk on the border and the population is mixed and it sits on top of or adjacent to the vital northern oil fields.

Bomber Strikes Funeral in Iraq; 4 Killed

Thursday June 29, 2006 7:16 PM

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - A suicide car bomber struck the funeral of a Shiite soldier
in the northern city of Kirkuk on Thursday, killing four people and wounding 27,
authorities said.

The attacker drove his car into the tent where the funeral was being held. Police
Sgt. Mohammed Khoshit and hospital officials said four people were killed and 27
were wounded, lowering an earlier police report that as many as 17 people had
died.

The oil-rich city of Kirkuk is 180 miles north of Baghdad.

11. They kill the relatives of the murdered so that there are less of them to
avenge the original killer. Perhaps?
