Though Bush's Numbers Edge Up, War Discontent Lifts Democrats
Bush's numbers edge up, but discontent over Iraq -- especially among women -- continues to bolster Democratic hopes for November.
By Ronald Brownstein, Times Staff Writer
June 30, 2006

WASHINGTON — President Bush's job approval rating is up slightly, but discontent over the Iraq war, especially among women, is continuing to boost Democratic prospects in the struggle for control of Congress, a Times/Bloomberg poll has found.

Bush's job approval rating edged up to 41%, his highest since January in the poll. But Democrats held a formidable advantage, 49% to 35%, when registered voters were asked which party they intended to support in fall congressional elections.

The survey's results suggested that an old challenge — the gender gap — could pose a renewed threat to the Republican hold on Congress. Although men split about evenly when asked which party they planned to back for Congress in November, women preferred Democrats by nearly 2 to 1.

3. What are you talking about?
His numbers didn't even go up with this poll compared to the last LA Times poll. It was 39% then, 41% now. That's not a significant difference.

Every poll has him pretty static.

9. Significant doesn't matter
The point is that they went up! Even if it is slow, it wasn't that long ago that he was down to 32%,
now he's gained 9%, from what? What exactly has he done that brought it up to that point.

Besides, any gain for this former coke head, isn't a good thing.

4. This is the stupidity of the American people
how many of those people polled are directly affected?

The best chance the democrats have in November is woman and labor. THey should be registering people to vote NOW if we hope to win. If they wait until the last minute the republic is over

2. Ah Brownstein of the Lies Angeles Times is at it again!
I'm just waiting from Brownstein the Boob to praise Bush for raising everyone's chocolate ration from 10 to 5 grams a la 1984...

So sad, when Otis Chandler sold the Los Angeles Times, he also sold away whatever remaining integrity it had. Now it's just as right wing as the Chicago Fibune!

Canceled my subscription when they fired Robert Scheer. LA Times is as bad as the Chicago Tribune because it is owened by the same people.

6. media bashing could be "helping" ....
the numbers aren't really going anywhere, but it looks like a few kool-aid drinker could be returning because of the media bashing since Bush voters tend to believe that the same elites who ridicule Bush also ridicule them

11. Bill Schneider of CNN is doing his best, of course.
This conservative think tank 'fellow' keeps up the meme that Democrats will impeach Bush if we take Congress.

Rove has been in touch.

13. Funny how impeachment doesn't scare that many people.
They keep pushing it, we keep winning.

8. 3% margin of error
So a 2% improvement doesn't mean anything statistically. Also, Bush isn't running come November, but his Republican pals are, and the public seems to prefer Democrats 49-35. We still have a lot of hard work to do in this campaign, but this is encouraging news, and bodes well for our chances to pry these greedy bastards' fingers off the levers of power at the end of the year. Continue to toil in the vineyard, my friends, and do so with a lightened heart that we are making a difference.

A few photo-ops and suddenly everything becomes fine and dandy in Iraq. Ugh.
