Retired colonel dies in Iraq (DynCorp contractor)
Source: ArmyTimes

A retired Air Force colonel working in Iraq as a contractor died Tuesday night when his convoy was attacked.

Michael Butler, 53, was a retired Air Force logistics and maintenance officer working in Iraq for DynCorp International. He left the service in June 2006 as director of logistics for Central Command Air Forces at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., and lived in Rembert, S.C.

Butler was a 1976 graduate of the Air Force Academy and had served as squadron commander at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, and a group commander at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey.

According to a statement from DynCorp, Butler was traveling with a five-vehicle convoy at 9:15 p.m. near Tikrit when the vehicles came under small-arms fire. A rocket-propelled grenade struck Butler’s vehicle. He had been in Iraq since December helping with the logistics required to support DynCorp’s effort to train Iraqi police.

3. Interesting. Wonder if he knew Amb. Marc Grossman or Sibel's nemesis, Doug Dickerson?

7. Absolutely.
They deserve a separate "Mercenaries Cemetery". Privately funded, of course.

9. Strange headline....
Sounds like they are trying to fool those who only scan the headlines.

Died kind of implies natural causes. It seems killed would be more definitive.
