Veggie Booty Snack Food Recalled (Possible Salmonella)

A popular snack food sold nationwide is being recalled because of concerns about contamination. All lots and sizes of Veggie Booty Snack Food are being recalled, the company said, following a report of 51 cases of salmonella poisoning that may be associated with the product.

Georgine Hertzwig of Robert's American Gourmet in Sea Cliff, N.Y., said the company acted after the Food and Drug Administration contacted them about the illnesses in 17 states.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Hertzwig said none of the products has tested positive for salmonella, but the company acted as a precaution after the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that many of the infected people has eaten the product.

I'm glad I haven't had any recently, although I have had the Cheese version (Pirate's Booty?), in fact still have them (Costco carries them now).

I hope it turns out to not be so....... (maybe it's the spinach in them? don't they have spinach?)

Tings at our co-op and don't have any Veggie Booty in stock now so I don't have to send this to the co-op but when Maranatha had their Tahini recall we took them off the shelves immediately because of reading it on DU..thank you!

Somebody at the co-op said.."how did you ever find that out?" I said, "DU, baby!"

DO NOT EAT FACTORY FOOD. If it's "prossesed and/or packaged" DON'T EAT IT.

Most of us don't have the land/time/money to farm and raise our own livestock. Farmer's markets are great, but they're usually only once or twice a week in most places.

I agree, just stay away from packaged snacks as much as you can.

sad to hear, I won't be purchasing it anymore...I love the Booty stuff...anyone try the Fruity Booty? the best.
