Days after Senator David Vitter apologized for using an escort service in Washington, D.C., a woman who once worked as a prostitute in Louisiana said he was a regular client of hers several years ago while he was a state legislator.

Yow characterized the senator as a good man but said she was perturbed that he portrayed himself as a politician who would bring moral authority to his office when he was using her services on the side.

Her former boyfriend Tait Cortez, contacted by The Times-Picayune, said he has seen several photos of Wendy Cortez and Vitter together.

The article is vague. Were they asked about the 2001 sting? If not, why did they supply that answer gratuitously?

IIRC, no "Johns" were implicated in that sting operation. John A$hcroft used valuable DOJ assets (FBI) to net 12 hookers in New Orleans. All the while, the 9/11 terrorists prepared for their attack. A$hcroft KNEW something was up when he stopped flying on the airlines in July 2001 for "security reasons." Still, the A$hcroft Whore Corp relentlessly pursued their quarry.

I wonder how Wendy Cortez (nee Yow) fits into all that. Vitter, too, for that matter. Was the New Orleans FBI operation in 2001 another convenient diversion, just as New Orleans was in the JFK assassination probe?

It's a tantalizing rumor, but it seems to be just a rumor right now. Apparently, the blog's writer got the tip from a someone who had heard it from a person who frequented the same Canal Street brothel Vitter went did. The writer has found this source to be reliable in the past.

However, bear in mind that no one from the Vitter camp has yet denounced the NOLA madam's statements, or the rumors of kinky behavior.

But I can't tell you who the first guy is, cuz he's my super secret source, and that guy can't tell you who the other guy is, because that would mean admitting to frequenting a brothel. So, the claim is doubly insulated as to its source, and its source can never be discovered as a matter of structural necessity. This is the form of almost every bullshit rumor to gain mass appeal.

You also forgot to mention that the New Orleans madam herself (who is an ACTUAL, as opposed to secret source), explicitly contradicted this rumored account, to wit:

It's just a rumor. Indeed, the only person to go on record about Vitter's activities (the NO madam) explicitly contradicted the diaper fetish rumor. Nobody can provide you with evidence because there is none of any credibility.

It's a pretty simple process: Party A admits to doing Very Bad Thing (VBT). Party B tries to portray Very Bad Thing in Very Worst Light (VWL). Parties C-n believe Party B without any foundation, since Party A already admitted to VBT, and it thus "stands to reason" (not actual reason, but Rumor Reason - another sort of creature altogether) that VBT must of necessity be in VWL. Ta-da! A rumor is born. This is the dynamic of any junior high school cafeteria. That it should also be the dynamic among a group of otherwise reasonable (real reason, not Rumor Reason) ADULTS is a thing to behold, but not altogether unsurprising, especially when that group of ADULTS want VWL to be really, really True (not real truth, but Rumor Truth, which is more entertaining and satisfying).
