India protests Haneef jailing

The jailing of Indian doctor Mohamed Haneef on terrorism charges has escalated into a diplomatic incident, with India lodging a protest over his treatment.

Australia's high commissioner to New Delhi, John McCarthy, was summoned last night to a meeting at India's External Affairs Ministry. ~snip~

Haneef's legal team will lodge an appeal in the Federal Court today against the Howard Government's decision to cancel his visa and keep him locked up.

After being detained for almost two weeks, 27-year-old Haneef was charged on Saturday with supporting terrorism by recklessly supplying a mobile phone SIM card to a cousin who was later involved in plotting car bomb attacks in Britain. ~snip~
