Republican lawmakers tout Iraq progress after visit

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A team of six Republican congressmen on Thursday said they saw signs of progress during a recent trip to Iraq and urged the US public to give the troop "surge" strategy more time to take effect.

Texas Representative John Carter said he spoke with commanders and soldiers who said they "feel like they are being successful in the fight ... because we are winning the people and the people are now helping us."

The greatest sign of increased stability, he said, was an impromptu stop in a street market in the western Al-Anbar province, once a vast stronghold of Sunni rebel insurgents.

"Anbar is a great story, you ought to go see it," he told reporters on the White House lawn.

"They have turned one of the hottest regions in the country into a place where we made a random stop in a market and we got out and walked through the market," he said.

1. These people are delusional.
I suppose if you want shit to smell like roses badly enough, you can pretend that it does.

4. Why am I thinking of that movie
from the 70's Capricorn One, when it comes to testimonials, from these whack-jobs? speaking of Hollywood, these bozos may give a writer an idea, another version of Wag-The-Dog.

8. With bullets instead of Muzak,
explosions instead of anchor stores, shrapnel instead of shopping bags and body parts instead of discarded pop cans. Oh, and a giant pit of blood where the food court should be.

11. They "feel they are being successful"
How many dead this month, Mr. Carter? How many suicide bombs, car bombs, roadside bombs, and other bombs have gone off? How many hours of electricity can a Baghdad resident depend on each day? You stopped at one market in Al-Anbar province; could you stop at markets in Tikrit? Basra? Could you drive from the Green Zone to the airport like you could from Texas Stadium to DFW?

Maybe there hasn't been as much progress as you think, you tool.

12. Did they visit the 2,000,000+ Iraqi Refuges in SA and Syria?
Did they talk to the people who's lives have been ripped apart just so a smiling slimy US Congressman could stroll with armed guards through their once beautiful city?

Can't wait to see the pictures of the Republican Congressman kissing little Iraqi babies. Just have your aide make sure they have all 4 limbs before he passes them on to you.

13. These shopping excursions have become quite a joke.
Why don't we have some republican congressmen spend a few days living downtown to show how great it is.
