Bush: 'She (Condi) Can Be My Date'
Source: Fox/AP

SYDNEY, Australia — Condoleezza Rice has been President Bush's foreign policy tutor, sports buddy, national security adviser and his secretary of state.

Bush came up with a new designation Wednesday at a dinner in his honor.

"She can be my date," the president said, reaching out his left hand to touch Rice's arm as they stood before the cameras at a dinner hosted by Prime Minister John Howard and his wife Janette at their residence, Kirribilli House .

First lady Laura Bush had stayed back in Washington, saying a pinched nerve prevented her from taking long flights.

57. Except these three go to "the ranch" together.

I don't think Diana was into that at all, considering she called Camilla "a Rottweiler."

Diana wouldn't just be quiet and enjoy the money and privileges, she actually wanted a husband.

6. Love this line

'First lady Laura Bush had stayed back in Washington, saying a pinched nerve prevented her from taking long flights.'

It's not as though there isn't a bed on AF1. It sounds like she would have to wait at airports and sit in tiny, cramped airline seats for long periods of time. She's gonna have to think of a better excuse next time. Peace, Kim

71. That was a juvenile comment for him to make
in that context. One might say something like that when they're with friends at a party or something.

But the leader of a country on an official visit should have the sense to be dignified. This falls into the category of his, "Your Scott is prettier than my Scott" remark, and others we could probably think of. All show that he's emotionally prepubescent.

And he's playing with nukes! :scared:

Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 12:08 PM by Whoa_Nelly
"US Secretary of Defense Rice will be accompanying me to the various political and social functions during this meeting of leaders from around the globe."

To minimize her by calling her his "date", shows utter and complete disrespect for her position within our government, and toward all women in professional positions.

Meanwhile, his arrogant attitude shows the misogynist he really is, as well as the fact that he's a total asswipe of a human being.

25. And would like to amend my post re: Rice
Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 01:11 PM by Whoa_Nelly
By not speaking up, Rice shows her willingness to allow this disrespect not only for her governmental position, but also for women, especially African-American women the nation over.

I suspect that Rice shows her arrogance and political ass-licking in this way as a form of self-loathing about her race and being a woman. She is no better off with her high and mighty attitudes, the monetary clout she exhibits, or the primping and pimping she has gone through to get to one of the highest political cabinet positions in the world, than the single welfare mother who continues to stay in a relationship with an abuser.

Women on the whole are still classed as less than a male black gay republican in this society. Rice thumbs her nose at women all around the globe by not speaking up and restating her position in accompanying McFuckwad on this trip.

Or, perhaps, she does not speak up because she really is, or hopes to further being, in a personal and intimate relationship with the Boy Clown and Idiot Chimp Extraordinaire of the soon-to-be late United States of America.

28. Dr Rice is a very accomplished woman. She would have more respect from me if she would speak up...
...on the REPEATED occasions where Bush "puts her in her place" like that. It need not be confrontational (especially considering their relationship, whatever that is), but something along the lines of a smiling "Of course I shall be attending as Secretary of State, and of course will be seated with the President."

As I say, I'd have more respect for her as a woman in a professional capacity, quite apart from my loathing for the man she enables.

But it's really got to be mind-bending to be in a professional/personal relationship with a man who simultaneously promotes you to a level of the highest responsibility and then publicly acts like the next thing he's
going to do is pinch your butt, and not in a really affectionate way.

I never read "Bush Women" so I am just left to marvel in disgust at everyone's behavior in the Bush orbit.

Hekate

46. Someone really needs to to make vid of * and Rice using this song
I Can't Say No

It ain't so much a question of not knowing what to do.
I knowed whut's right and wrong since I been ten.
I heared a lot of stories and I reckon they are true
About how girls're put upon by men.
I know I mustn't fall into the pit,
But when I'm with a feller, I fergit!
I'm jist a girl who cain't say no,
I'm in a turrible fix I always say "come on, le's go"
Jist when I orta say nix!
When a person tries to kiss a girl,
I know she orta give his face a smack.
But as soon as someone kisses me,
I somehow, sorta, wanta kiss him back!
I'm jist a fool when lights are low
I cain't be prissy and quaint
I ain't the type that can faint
How c'n I be whut I ain't?
I cain't say no!
Whut you goin' to do when a feller gits flirty, and starts to talk purty?
Whut you goin' to do?
S'posin' 'at he says 'at yer lips're like cherries, er roses, er berries?
Whut you goin' to do?
S'posin' 'at he says 'at you're sweeter 'n cream,
And he's gotta have cream er die?
Whut you goin' to do when he talks that way,
Spit in his eye?
I'm jist a girl who cain't say no,
Cain't seem to say it at all
I hate to disserpoint a beau
When he is payin' a call!
Fer a while I ack refined and cool,
A settin on the velveteen setee
Nen I think of thet ol' golden rule,
And do fer him what he would do fer me!
I cain't resist a Romeo
In a sombrero and chaps
Soon as I sit on their laps
Somethin' inside of me snaps
I cain't say no!Someone really needs to make

61. If that's so, then that might explain why he always seems so disconnected
from genuine reality-based concern for voter demographics.

We're starting to get these think pieces (and big-impact books here and there) in the waning days of the bush era that attempt to look at potential impacts and trickle-downs and direct consequences/results of what's been allowed to happen. Many of these think pieces opine about how the republi-CONS are pissing away any hopes of building their "permanent majority" with any help from Hispanics. Lots of talk about how Hispanics are being disenfranchised and alienated enmasse by the extremist tunnel-fision jingoism of the anti-immigration lobby. And that's what it is. It's essentially another lobby.

Well, what's happening with Hispanics certainly is true among African-Americans. Any possible increase in black GOP demos ground to a screeching halt when we all saw what Hurricane Katrina could do. Moreover, African-Americans have been active longer so they have the clout and the infrastructure in place, thanks to Jesse Jackson, Howard University, the NAACP, the various centers and endowments and libraries and upper-level institutions founded by and for the benefit of the African-American community. They've had towering figures of great historical significance who've articulated for their renaissance for decades. No, make that about a century or two, really. Hence, civil rights issues and considerations are common subjects that are prominent in scope and highly familiar in the national psyche. Their message gets through and makes/maintains an impact because there's been time to plow and prepare and fertilize the fields to be receptive. Similar Hispanic groups and support organizations have only recently started to develop a large-scale public platform of advocacy, so specific issues of interest are only now beginning to become a prevailing issue. The immigration debate has finally forced Hispanic issues onto everybody's front page rather than way back in the back, basically on "ignore".

Sorry. Just blathering here, I'm afraid. I'm just drawing conclusions based on what I see playing out in front of me. Hey, we ALL are to some extent, aren't we? But just consider: when you consider these political and public conditions at present, and you see mountains of evidence upon more mountains of evidence of bush's denial, his ivory-tower avoidance, his "bubble boy" mystique, his utter insulation and detachment from reality. He sees only what he wants to see, and hears only what he wants to hear. Everything is fine. And I'm sure at least a small part of him thinks that he's winning hearts and minds with African-American voters if he shows how "color-blind" he is, cozying up and sweet-talking in public with "that cute li'l gal I gave the State Department to." And, he figures, won't they just LOVE him for it!!! He figures he can manipulate how you feel about him with these infuriating, insulting, and demeaning little cutesy gestures and then it won't matter what he does. Because he's charmed you into giving him the benefit of the doubt and letting him get away with it, so he figures you won't care. Sure, he's carrying on with contradicta. You can say one thing for him, at least he's not a racist. Never mind what he's done, and continues to do to millions of African-Americans whose desperately-needed safety net he's tended with a frickin' chain saw. He's mighty sweet to her. I guess you're forgiven, george.

Remember, he always goes for the gut. Facts don't count with him. Yer gut does. So he figures you operate the same way. And if you don't, you should.

67. They think token minorities will win them votes.

Repukes thought that having Gonzo and Condi would win them the Black vote and the Hispanic vote.

Reagan thought the women would just vote for him because he put Sandra Day O'Connor, first woman on the Supreme Court. That didn't make her a liberal. Moderate but certainly not liberal.

They thought that all women vote for male candidates based solely on looks. That's why they ran Dan Quayle as VP. They thought that female voters would think he was cute. I think the female voters (including yours truly) thought he was a complete idiot, and NOT cute anyway.

They think that we the electorate are so stupid that we will think "Gosh! That's a Black person! That's a woman! That's a Hispanic person! Gee, they must be LIBRUL if they are working for Republicans! Those Repukes must be nicer than we thought. See, they let women and minorities advance in the Cabinet and they run for office."

They insult the entire electorate with this thinking. But then they don't give a damn about us anyway.

:puke:

BARF!!!!

It's not about being a groundbreaker minority, it's about being COMPETENT. They fail to see that. If you say "Condi is not competent" they call you a racist, missing the point.

If you say "Katie Couric is a lousy journalist and too fluffy" they call you a sexist. She's not competent. It's not a matter of gender.

You'd think we all would have evolved beyond that a little.

BTW - good luck with your arias (do it for Pavarotti)!

70. Nah. Good repubs are against interracial couples only when the woman is white and the guy isn't
I'm also fairly certain they hate all gay couples equally, interracial or not

He strikes me as being someone who has never grown up and who specializes in deflecting important questions with non-sequitors and cliched jingoistic rhetoric. When then President Clinton was here a decade ago, he was charming, eloquent and spoke passionately against racism and for social justice and equality. And when he was asked questions, he answered them with such depth and intellect. It's sad to see what has become of the US presidency
