Apec security leaves bitter taste in Sydney
Source: BBC News

"Somebody in the security operation got very carried away with their own self-importance, and nobody in the state or federal government counterbalanced them.

"It was totally and utterly disproportionate."
>
From demonstrations of its new high-powered water cannon to night-time exercises involving riot police, the New South Wales police were determined to show they were ready for large-scale protests with the possibility of turning violent.

1. Kicking Howard out would solve the problem, not that we Americans can
brag about solving problems at this point.

2. Simple lesson to Australia & world: Don't roll out the red carpet for war criminals.
And if you have a leader prone to do so, you need to take the necessary steps to remove them.

3. What did the Aussie government expect? That the citizens would come
out and greet our war criminal faux pResident with songs and rose petals?

10. Given that Bush gave his endorsement of another term for Howard,
clearly neither of them has woken up to the fact that Bush has no credibility with the majority of
the population - no matter how they vote.

I'm sure Howard also thought that Australians would be impressed by the fact that he was hosting
world leaders. Given that nothing was achieved and the city was locked down for a week and many
small business lost money by having to close, he just comes over as a dickhead.

9. This will be one more nail in Howards coffin...
Aussies don't like that type of security-especally in their major cities.
