Hal Daub, energetic and sometimes combative former Omaha mayor and former congressman, is hoping he scores a win in his third try for the U.S. Senate.
The Republican plans to enter the 2008 race with an announcement Monday morning in Scottsbluff, followed by a two-day tour across Nebraska. He will run for the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel.

Daub is widely known in Omaha and in state GOP circles, particularly from his years as mayor of Nebraska's largest city, where he was praised by some for his willingness to take on tough political battles and criticized by others for being too aggressive and divisive.
Daub, who lost his third mayoral race to Democrat Mike Fahey in 2001, could not be reached Friday. In announcing next week's tour, he said he would be attending funeral services for his mother-in-law in Arapahoe over the weekend and would not be available to comment before Monday.
