China urges U.S. to cancel arms sales to Taiwan
2007-09-16 22:58:14

BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) --
China on Sunday voiced its strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the U.S. tentative plans of arms sales to Taiwan and urges the United States to immediately cancel the plans. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said China firmly opposes the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. "Our position is consistent and clear," she said.

She said the United States would seriously violate its commitments to China made in the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, in particular the joint communique signed between the two countries on Aug. 17, 1982, if it sells P-3C antisubmarine aircraft and other advanced weapons to Taiwan.

She said the arms sales to Taiwan also constitutes wanton interference in China's internal affairs, noting the Chinese side has expressed strong objection and lodged a solemn protest with the U.S..

The U.S. Department of Defense on Wednesday announced tentative plans to sell 12 P-3C antisubmarine aircraft and 144 cruise missiles to Taiwan.

1. I do not understand why China would want to stop the sale of
weapons to Taiwan. When Taiwan becomes part of China these arms will come in handy in making China the next Superpower. This may not happen in my lifetime but it is inevitable. Hell, if we have another Bush for president the US will become part of China.

7. They don't have to dump a thing...
they just have to stop buying them. That's enough to sink us. Remember we barrow 200 billion a month just for the interest.

3. Uh oh...
Decider Boy doesn't like it when the big people tell him
what to do. It reminds him of those lonely Thanksgiving
dinners, when he was relegated to the card table, while
the adults ate in the living room.

Those scars run deep.

He'll rebel, like the petulant, sniveling rodent that he is.

Look for a high-profile arms sale to Taiwan, surrounded by major
pomp and circumstance. We'll probably see a parade, fireworks,
the Rocketts, a live performance by Kelly Clarkson during a
week-long "Taiwan On Yer Missle!" festival.

Gads.

4. So what is China afraid of?
Do they think Taiwan will attack and invade mainland China? Or is it a case that when China goes to invade Taiwan that they don't want any opposition? Questions, questions, and more questions. If China was smart they'd offer to sell them arms that would windup being defective and placed onto a recall list. I can see it now that Taiwan's soldiers are getting ill due to their guns being painted with lead paint.
