Romney targets gay marriage in new ad : anti gay
Source: Associated Press

DES MOINES, Iowa - Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney is launching a radio ad touting the strength of his opposition to gay marriage.

Romney, who has come under criticism from conservatives for his past support of some gay rights issues, says he is the only major GOP candidate backing a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.

"Not all Republican candidates agree, but defending marriage is the right thing to do," Romney says in the 60-second spot to begin airing Wednesday.

The ad is meant to set him apart from Fred Thompson, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani in the minds of conservative voters.

Watch more join up. It's supposed to set Romney apart but I bet the rest join him.

7. The RW base he is pandering to is shrinking
thank gawd.

These RWers ( I don't call them 'republicans') need to be run out of the country.

9. And so are the "mainstream" democrats.
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 09:15 PM by iaviate1
Like Hillary, Obama, and Edwards to name a few. But I don't see much outrage about that. Why is it okay for them to be against gay marriage, but not Republicans?

22. It isn't okay, but at least they're not actively pushing anti-gay measures
for the most part.

25. I suppose it's the hypocrisy...

...and the GOP candidates' apparent eagerness to chant their slogans.

The weakness of the stance of most of the Dem candidates, though detestable, is at least consistent. They at least have enough of a sense of shame to try to dodge the issue...but that only encourages their Republican opponents.

26. The Democrats too; they just aren't as blatant about it
Show me one of the Democratic candidates (other than Kucinich) who has not come out against same-sex marriage. Clinton has been very clear about her opposition. So has Obama. So has Edwards.

You know, I don't know why they all don't just come out of the closet and get it over with. This is just getting tiresome.

29. "surely offended more than he won over."
When morons like mittens do this dumb shit, it is less work for us because he/they dig their own graves.

Marriage is between the 2 people who are to be wed, no one else is involved and it has ZERO implications on anyone elses marriage. My message to the mittens circus: "Mind your own fucking business!"

8. Desperation tactics
by Mutt, the Ames, Iowa straw poll didn't give him the lift he was expecting. He's still stuck at about 15%, give or take, in the Rassmussen polls. He's funny, he came out charging against Hillary's health care plan, even though it is pretty darn close to what he signed in Massachusetts.

The Rethugs aren't buying it, expect Mutt to crash and burn shortly after New Hampshire, if not before.

11. LDS has such a stellar record in defending marriage
as a cover for pedophiles that use marriage to rape young girls in the name of GAWD. That's the legacy that Mister Romney is defending, the multiple wifes and lots of children, mostly girls since the boys are driven away from home (Can't have competition).

Spare me the LDS morality, and their bullshit about giving up their past sexual practices.

13. Excellent Indiana! Utah and Arizona AG's won't prosecute the 90 thousand families living against
the law. Why because they will separate families. While they believe in separating American born children from their undocumented parents. Repugs are in trouble on this issue and they can't hold the moral ground on it. We need to get the word out - no matter how you personally stand on the undocumented worker issue.

and years after it was legalized we continue to have the lowest divorce rate in the nation. Marriage doesn't need his kind of protection.

15. Exactly
I personally don't think it's immoral but even if it was we shouldn't legislate morals. Romney wants to make it a moral issue yet act like he's not discriminating so his "defense" of marriage argument falls flat in the face of numbers.

30. Constitutional amendment again
Notice how Repubs seem to keep proposing amendments to limit everyone's rights as opposed to broadening them. What part of inalienable is it that these dinosaurs don't understand? And can anybody name a single Republican administration in which we made progress in the area of civil rights? Uh huh, I thought so.

32. Grrrrrrrrrrr I hate Mitt Romney
I think Romney is closeted. I am not saying that to take a jab at gays. It just seems he is a bit like that Craig guy, can't remember his full name, but he was literally caught with his pants down and acting like a toe tapping fool.

But, Romney if nominated could be the worst thing to happen to Republicans, so there is always a bright side.
