Climate film allowed in schools
Source: BBC News

Ex-US vice president Al Gore's climate change documentary can be shown in England's secondary schools, a High Court judge has said.

An Inconvenient Truth promotes "partisan political views" but it is not unlawful to show to students, Mr Justice Burton said.

He made the comments after a hearing in which Kent parent Stewart Dimmock asked for the film to be banned.

The judge said teachers must follow updated guidance when showing the film.

2. Any "partisan political views" were pretty obviously USA-centric
I'm hard pressed to imagine how they could be directly relevant to England's parliamentary partisan politics.

IMHO, Justice Burton is slightly off track on this one, although he's right to say that the major points have sufficiently strong scientific backing to trump any political objection.

3. How in the hell?
How in the hell does AIT promote partisan political views?
Oh, wait, is it because the left uses facts and the right bases everything on faith?

5. So ... science is now considered to be a "partisan political view"
:wtf:

Hey parents ... if you don't want your child to learn about the "evils" of science, keep them out of the school system so the "enlightened" children can learn something without your interference, ok? :eyes:

10. This is hogwash:
"Mr Dimmock, from Dover, argued the film was unfit for schools because it was politically partisan and contains serious scientific inaccuracies, as well as "sentimental mush"."

Yeah, Gore does get a bit sentimental about his childhood in rural TN in the film, but if sentiment is to be banned from schools then most English Lit classes would be without material. The only "scientific inaccuracies" in the film are in the time line, which has proven to be too optimistic recently ( worst case scenarios will come to pass far earlier than predicted). Even Scientists connected with right wing owned National Geographic said "if anything, it's an optimistic view of climate change".
