Iran rules out talks on 'nuclear rights'

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran on Friday ruled out any negotiations with world powers over its right to sensitive nuclear activities, amid growing pressure from the United States and Europe for more sanctions against Tehran.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the faithful in a speech at Tehran University there was no question of Iran suspending uranium enrichment activities, which the West fears could be used to make a nuclear weapon.

"The Iranian people are not ready to sit around a table and discuss their absolute nuclear rights. They (world powers) have to know this," Ahmadinejad said.

"We are no longer prepared to be active in the political scene to argue about Iran's right to nuclear energy."

His defiant comments came after France called for EU sanctions over Tehran's nuclear programme and amid US efforts for a third UN Security Council resolution imposing sanctions against the Islamic republic.

France, Germany keep EU sanctions pressure on Iran

PARIS/BERLIN, Oct 5 - France and Germany signalled on Friday the European Union could punish Iran for pressing ahead with its nuclear programme before the world's top powers agree on further sanctions at the United Nations.

France urged other EU states this week to start exploring further sanctions against Iran now, at the same time as the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany negotiate a third round of U.N. measures against Tehran.

Some European countries, such as Italy, have signalled their reluctance to back EU measures outside the U.N. framework.

Germany appeared to give cautious backing to that strategy with comments suggested a hardening of Berlin's position. Until now, it has insisted the debate in the Security Council run its course before action outside it is considered.

"In the event a Security Council decision cannot be reached and Iran is not showing a readiness to cooperate, the EU needs to think in a timely way about how to react," a German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman told a news conference

1. Iran Should Have
the same equal rights to Nuclear activities that every other Country has.
Why should they have any less rights than anyone else?

4. We Have No Right
nor reason to "confront" someone who has done nothing to us nor to anyone else.

5. The world community is concerned
as are most Democrats of substance. Any Iranian nuclear ambitions are a concern.

6. Only A Small Part
of the World Community is "concerned" due to the bullying insistence of BushInc. and Ally.
Just as a small part of Democrats buy into the false hype.

As for the rest of Democrats having no "substance" that is is only your opinion,
and one that I do not share.

8. Leading candidates
Clinton

"We have allowed the Iranians to begin their nuclear program, to imprison Iranian Americans as they are now, to send weapons across their borders to be used against our young men and women, and we need a process of engagement...Are you always going to get good results? No. But you've got to start the process. However, we still have to make it clear that Iran having a nuclear weapon is absolutely unacceptable."

Obama

"But, have no doubt, Iran possessing nuclear weapons will be a major threat to us and to the region. They're in the process of developing it. And I don't think that's disputed by any expert. They are the largest state sponsor of terrorism, of Hezbollah and Hamas."

7. He is actually quite powerless
in his own country. bushco is trying to make him the evil man we have to attack next. Yes, he spews stupid stupid comments, but that doesn't make him "dangerous".

12. Again, I think you misunderstood me
I am against any kind of millitary action against Iran. You, like your candidate, think we should leave the option open.
