Poll: No Spike in Interest in Gore
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — Al Gore's Nobel Peace Prize hasn't translated into an increase in support for a presidential bid, a poll found Tuesday.

Asked if they would like to see the former vice president run for president in 2008, people said no by a 54 percent to 41 percent margin, according to a Gallup Poll. That was about the same as last March, when people opposed his running 57 percent to 38 percent.

Even among Democrats there was no visible surge of interest in Gore. In the new survey, 48 percent said they would like him to run and 43 percent said they would not. Last March, Democrats were in favor of him entering the race 54 percent to 41 percent — statistically the same as the new poll...

22. The AP values it ... it's always managed by a statistical analysis firm
That's where the truth is.

All these "don't run, Al" polls are coming out courtesy of all the other candidates ... one or all.

8. I don't know why people are so enthusiastic about Gore
If he entered the race, he might do okay, but I really don't think he's that dynamic or even that liberal. He ran once, pretty much as a moderate, and had his victory robbed from him. It wasn't fair, but that was his chance. He seems like an awfully decent and real person, unlike Hillary or Obama, but he wasn't an exciting candidate back in 2000 and he's not one now. I hope he continues to lead to the fight on global warming, since he does have a lot of stature and it's an important fight. But, I think if he entered the race, he wouldn't shake it up all that much.

We don't just like Gore because the others are unacceptable.

We like him because he's a real leader who actually cares about the people of this world.

He's right on the Environment, on the War, on the direction this country should be heading.

We see something we can look up to in this man.

He doesn't just talk. His actions have earned him this respect.

Hillary doesn't stand a chance against this real, live human being.

30. You've got that right, Jack! I don't know who's responsible for
this poll, but it's a complete waste of words. Heads were imploding everywhere with the mere thought of a Gore run. It would be a devastating landslide to any/all candidates. I don't believe the propaganda machine for one minute.

The minute he announces, the pollsters won't be able to keep up with any opinions, people will be dancing in the flippin streets for joy!

15. You answered your own question
"an awfully decent and real person, unlike Hillary or Obama"

I don't have to have "dynamic or even that liberal" or "exciting".

Why do you?

He's highly intelligent and respected around the world, and he values the human race over the corporate race.

You would read here about how this obviously was straight from the mouth of God and how noble and wise and intuitive these polls are as well as those polled and how they obviously have their finger on the pulse of America.

25. It would have been wonderful
because it would have been outside the norm of big money etc and more of a grassroots type of thing.
Someone the people wanted. I wish it had been 75 percent saying they wanted him to run and that the media had been kind to him in the past few years. It would have been wonderful. But that is in my fairy tale country.

17. A fellow from the DNC called today to ask me for $$ - I told him I might
donate if the Democrats got Al to run. He let out a long, low whistle and said, "That sure would be something, wouldn't it?" I suggested that he sign the petition at DraftGore.com and he first repeated it as DraftAl.com and I corrected him and he wrote it down. One tiny step...

20. Even better. I'm not sure why some are looking at this as bad news.
That's a huge number at this point in the race. My guess is that the number will get even bigger once he announces. I think a lot of people don't want to think about someone until they are a candidate.

24. This is one of those false polls
I think they are called "push" polls. The ones that are paid by people who want to influence the public. If Gore is so low in the polls, why is the RW and maybe, Hillary, are so scared of his possible run and have been denigrating him since the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded?

33. This is also top news in Norway
You can tell that the media here takes a deep breath of relief, and supports that talking point with all their hearts. Well, that is; if they had hearts. But they don't. It is becoming increasingly interesting to see the local media juxtaposed agaist the US media on this topic. There's no doubt that they share the same bias against Gore.

37. No spike? Gore is up 40% from last month - same poll
USA Today/Gallup Poll. Oct. 12-14, 2007. N=500 Democrats and Democratic leaners nationwide. MoE ± 5.

"Next, I'm going to read a list of people who may be running in the Democratic primary for president in the next election. After I read all the names, please tell me which of those candidates you would be most likely to support for the Democratic nomination for president in the year 2008, or if you would support someone else. . . ." Names rotated
...
Al Gore 14(10)
http://pollingreport.com/wh08dem.htm

Second poll down.

It was 10% last month and 14% this month. This is AP spin. The "who would you vote for" is the usual question to determine support, but AP chose to lead with the other question, probably asked of everyone, then misrepresented the results on the "who would you vote for" question, which was only asked of dems and dem leaners.

This poll strongly indicates increased support for Gore in the dem primary.
