George Bush Warns Putin Over 'World War III'
Source: Telegraph UK

President George W Bush has raised the spectre of "World War Three" breaking out if Iran was allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.

Bush's comments are likely to fuel speculation about possible US air strikes against Iranian targets

--
Mr Bush said: "We've got a leader in Iran who has announced that he wants to destroy Israel.

"So I've told people that, if you're interested in avoiding World War Three, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon."

Mr Bush said he was not worried by growing Russian ties to Iran, which has been an American enemy since the 1979 Islamic revolution, though his tone betrayed unease about Mr Putin's motives.

He said he was "looking forward to getting Mr Putin's read-out from the meeting", but trusted that Mr Putin still agreed it was a bad idea for Teheran to build the bomb.

31. George W Stillson.
Greg Stillson: Put your hand on the scanning screen, and you'll go down in history with me!
Five Star General: As what? The world's greatest mass murderers?
Greg Stillson: You cowardly bastard! You're not the voice of the people, I am the voice of the people! The people speak through me, not you!

Greg Stillson: You put your god damn hand on that scanning screen, or I'll hack it off and put it on for you!

Greg Stillson: The missiles are flying. Hallelujah, Hallelujah!

Life imitating Stephen King, perhaps?

19. Congress won't impeach Bush, and God
won't save us from Bush. In fact, God won't even save Bush from Bush. Little hypocrite that he is, he has walled himself off from all that is holy in the human spirit and realizes with horror that he is truly on his own. Not even God will save him. Sometimes I wonder if Bush doesn't subconsciously harbor a death wish. Perhaps he feels an assassin's merciful, lightning fast strike is his only escape from the tragedy that his life has become. Rapture for Bush may indeed have been prophesied in Matthew 26:52 - "... whoever lives by the sword shall die by the sword."

20. Perhaps the AntiChrist is real, eh? Bushler sure does sound like the AC would,
doesn't he?

Could we be living

My Antichrist joke aside, and speaking seriously now: I and a few others warned you ALL back in 2000 and 2001, that Bush = Hitler was NOT hyperbole.

You said we were nuts, some of you degraded and insulted us (it's all there in the archives for you to peruse at your leisure). Oh, not you personally Skinner, but so many.

Tinfoilers, we were. Nutjobs.

Now, who's the fucking nutjob? Am I pissed? Oh, only as much as being dissed, even here at DU where we should have known better and tenfold so when "Paul Revere-ing" in the real world could make a person.

NOW you see. You had your Caligula moment. Your Kristallnacht moment. Maybe you see NOW.

OK, before I start ranting on someone who doesn't deserve it, let me just say thanks for creating DU.

But NOW you see. If you want to see and understand more, please click on my sigline link and read what is there...twenty years of scientific research which further explains, more eloquently than I ever could, why the Bush = Hitler is not just relevant but a fact...these are two variations of the same mental disease which has killed millions and will kill millions more if not opposed.

But nothing I could say could stand next to your "Caligula Moment" that you finally had.

Join the club of crazies and tinfoilers. This is NOT just another normal pendulum swing!

4. Watershed moment in "statesmanship" ....
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 10:53 PM by JohnnyLib2

I'm wondering if there has ever been anything like this, particularly from a president with so little support and such heavy commitment of military resources. Amazing.

complaining with boasting

21. I think Peter Beinart is incorrect here - it could easily be WWIII if China & Russia support Iran
snip
"I am sure people around the world will be terrified by these comments," said Peter Beinart, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. "There is clearly an apocalyptic streak in his rhetoric, but his historical understanding is very limited.

"Even if, God forbid, we went to war with Iran it wouldn't be World War Three because Iran is not a major power. It would be more of a colonial style war."

Earlier in the White House press conference, Mr Bush refused to answer repeated questions about an Israeli air strike inside Syria last month that US officials has said obliterated a nascent nuclear reactor built with North Korean assistance. "This is not my first rodeo," the president said."

And, if there's a World War IV it will be fought with rocks and sticks, to paraphrase Einstein.

32. This comment by Putin today is moving them closer and closer to an official declaration...
``Russia, thank God, is not Iraq, and Russia has enough forces and funds to defend itself and its interests both on its own territory and in other parts of the world,'' Putin said

28. Noticed it changed from building nuclear weapons to
"having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon". Which of course is knowledge everyone on Earth has.

Similar to the rhetoric against Saddam Hussein which changed to "Saddam Hussein must disarm". Which of course no leader of any country can do. Might as well have asked him to commit suicide it was essentially the same thing.

34. I just gave myself the chills.
I thought back to the comment Bush made after he met Putin face to face.
Bush said he "got a sense of his soul".

What if that sense was that Bush really thinks Putin is the anti-Christ?
