Republicans clash: Who is most conservative?
Source: MSNBC/AP

ORLANDO, Fla. - Front-runners Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney were forced to defend their conservative credentials by their campaign rivals Sunday night in the sharpest debate so far of the Republican presidential campaign.

“You’ve just spent the last year trying to fool people about your record. I don’t want you to start fooling them about mine,” Sen. John McCain jabbed at Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts.

Former Sen. Fred Thompson turned Giuliani into his target, saying the former New York mayor supported federal funding for abortion, gun control and havens for illegal immigrants. “He sides with Hillary Clinton on each of those issues,” he added, referring to the New York Democrat who leads in the polls for her party’s presidential nomination.

The Republican party seems so out of touch it is great to watch.

1. Rachel Maddow always puts together great summaries of these freak shows.
On Rachel Maddow's excellent AAR radio show (which I find to be the most informative program of any kind anywhere,) she frequently refers to these republican "debates" as "a contest to see who can be the craziest person running for president."

4. Some species of primate hurl feces at rivals during territorial displays.
I often find it helpful to bear this in mind when watching campaigning republicans.

5. the ugly trick-bag for these fools
they are playing the "I am more like GWBush" than you are per positions - where most voters no longer find affinity with those policies.

It is so odd. Thia battle of "I am more like that which everyone except the 20+ % reactionary republicans really like than the other candidates"... The world, including the American public, has changed - in great part to the reactionary and dangerous policies of this "conservative" president - and these guys don't get it. The harder they pander to the reactionary right - the more they will find distrust or at least great ambivalence among most of the voting public.

6. Conservative = Insane
Conservatives had six years of unchecked power to implement their policies at the national level. The results speak for themselves.

8. My neighbor is a news journalist and covered the event
He said that the word in the room was that Giuliani is the presumed nominee, hands down. Romney failed to win much of anyone over and Thompson is defiantly out. My neighbor, a Brit, works for a foreign news service and he found the entire debate "embarrassing". No real surprise there!

12. How conservative are you?
I'm so conservative that I want to ban all abortions but kill everyone as soon as they are born!

I'm so conservative that I want to blow up everything in the world just so we will be the last nation standing, thus assuring us #1 status forever!

I'm so conservative that my tap dancing lessons have nothing to do with my bathroom behavior...honest!

I'm so conservative that I only lie to tell the truth about lying!

15. The failure of the right was in not being right enough
Rather than lead to collapse and change, the failure of the neocon revolution will lead to more extremism. The 'stab in the back' will have come from closet liberals, secret homosexuals, and those turncoats willing to compromise with evil.

I don't see what's so great to watch about this.

19. I REALLY hope that the Dems
are keeping very nice video and audio for the upcoming presidential elections. These knuckleheads are trying to prove how conservative they are since that is all they care about for the primaries. But as soon as they have a nominee they will change their tune dramatically to try to sway back to the middle to swoon the independent and "down the middle" voters.

If the Dems can keep this audio and videoon hand it will make for some great TV and radio commercials. We need to beat them at their own game.
