Rice pushes Russia for political reform By DESMOND BUTLER, Associated Press Writer
7 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Monday called on the Russian government to strengthen the independence of its courts, its press and its parliament.

Rice said that democratic reforms would strengthen Russia and improve relations with the United States.

"We want Russia to be strong_ strong in 21st-century terms, not just with a strong independent center, but with strong independent institutions, an independent judiciary and legislature and independent civil society with a free media and vibrant non-governmental sector," she said.

The speech, at the opening of a conference on U.S.-Soviet history during part of the Cold War, comes at a time of heightened U.S.-Russian tensions and concern that Russian President Vladimir Putin is consolidating power in the central government. Russia has objected to U.S. plans to build a missile defense system in Eastern Europe and has bristled over U.S. criticisms of its human rights record.

because they're concerned about our putting up a missile shield and possible NATO aggression and we have the audacity to tell Russia to improve their government?

I'm sure Rice has been told various ways in Russian to go phuck herself.

5. I'm sure that Putin is "shaking in his boots". America only bullies
entities that have next to zero ability to retaliate.

6. We want?
She is as delusional as Bush and obviously believes the United States controls the world now and is the "decider" for the world.

And of course, again, you have to wonder if she realizes that she is speaking about the United States.

We, more than anyone else, need "strong independent institutions, an independent judiciary and legislature and independent civil society with a free media and vibrant non-governmental sector."

12. You can tell who Washington is threatened by.
Look at the ones who they do the most talking about.

1. Russia
2. Iran

Russia, for obvious reasons. They've got oil supplies and we don't. Same thing with Iran.
