Edwards calls global warming moral test

By CAIN BURDEAU, Associated Press Writer Sun Nov 4, 2:58 AM ET

NEW ORLEANS - Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on Saturday called reversing global warming a "great moral test" and said the next president needs to stand up to industries resisting change.

"This is the great moral test of our generation. Are we actually going to leave this planet and America better for our children than we found it?" Edwards said at an environmental rally in New Orleans.

"Why have we not addressed the issue of climate change and global warming?" Edwards said. "I'll tell you why, no question about it: oil companies, gas companies, power companies and the lobbyists in Washington, D.C. We have to have a president who will stand up to these people."

Last month Edwards picked up an endorsement from the national environmental group Friends of the Earth Action.

1. I 've stopped listening to Edwards.
What a shame he had to resort to distortions and twists--now I don't even want to listen to him at all...

3. so, who are you going to listen to that has even a slight chance to win the democratic nomination?
What did you want him to do as a senator? Introduce legislation that had no chance of going anywhere? The senate is powerless without enough votes to override a veto.

2. What did Edwards do as a Senator about Global Warming?
Nothing. And yet he he says this (from the OP)
"Why have we not addressed the issue of climate change and global warming?" Edwards said. "I'll tell you why, no question about it: oil companies, gas companies, power companies and the lobbyists in Washington, D.C.

I call Bull Shit on Edwards on this. He did nothing because of the lobbyists in D.C.?

9. You are right. He did nothing while he was a senator, but...
I'd trust him to do more than the Clintons, who proved that they're for eight years that they're not willing to do shit about about global warming.

11. You've never heard of the 1997 (Clinton was President in 1997) Kyoto Protocol?
That Al Gore signed, as Clinton's VP? It's true that the Republican controled Congress, and later the Bush administration tore it up, but Clinton did do more than "shit" as you call it.

13. I have heard of the Kyoto Protocol, buddy.
You're referring to the document that Billy Boy never even submitted for ratification!

Yeah, that's what I call taking substantive action on climate change!

4. Very nice.
I hope all of our candidates speak out loudly on the environment. :toast:

So sorry to see GDP bile spilling into LBN threads. Hard core junkies can't get enough and often wander out of their home turf. Sad.

6. A test? any kindergartner knows the right thing to do in this "moral" test
don't pee in your own drinking water.

don't put the fishy in the paint, or the paint in the fish.

The fresh, clean air outside is good and fun.

Don't eat dirty snow it's yucky.

There are many more "moral words of wisdom" I am sure our politician can learn, if they choose to first, give our grade schoolers a chance to have health care so they can second have enough strength and patience to teach this group of "do nothings" the basics of morality ans social contracts.

10. This is good news. Even some GOP ministers are beginning
to recognize that care of the planet is a moral issue that all Christians (or whatever) should be concerned with.

15. I love John Edwards haircut and all. He made his $ not inherited
like that IDIOT who can not even speak english or have analytical abilities to think through issues.
Bush's dad paid for his degrees. I imagine his IQ is just about average.
