Game of Chicken: Republicans Vote AGAINST Tabling Resolution to Impeach Dick Cheney
Kucinich Proposal Eventually Referred to House Judiciary Committee for Further Action, Study...

UPDATE: Judiciary Committee 'Suprised' by Minority Move, Plans to 'Continue to Consider' Matter...

Statement just in from a U.S. House Judiciary Committee spokeswoman, in response to the referal of the Impeachment resolution to the committee...

"The Committee has a very busy agenda - over the next two weeks, we hope to pass a FISA bill, to vote on contempt of Congress citations, pass legislation on prisoner re-entry, court security and a variety of other very important items. We were surprised that the minority was so ready to move forward with consideration of a matter of such complexity as impeaching the Vice President. The Chairman will discuss today's vote with the Committee members but it would seem evident that the committee staff should continue to consider, as a preliminary matter, the many abuses of this Administration, including the Vice President."

UNRAVELING TODAY'S STRANGE TURN OF EVENTS,
INCLUDING JUST IN STATEMENT FROM HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE:

1. You Can Always Rely On Brad Blog Or Raw Story....
Give us optimism and hope, in the face of reality.

If I had a dime for every optimistic story I read at Brad Blog, which ammounted to zilch, I'd be wealthy. Even considering the worthless $.

3. Well, it's a weapon. All those Republicans who are up for reelection can now say they
voted FOR impeachment. Let them get that word out to their disgrunted constituents, who might actually think they MEANT it.

Then throw the bill to the floor, and force them to be 'for it before they were against it...'

Ah, such flip-floppers!! :sarcasm:

4. Great plan, I like it...
I would not put the sarcasm tag at the end though, I honestly think that is a great idea. If the Republicans want a debate on impeachment let them have it. Considering Cheney is one of the most hated men in America, I don't think the debate is going to help Republicans as much as they think it will.

5. Actually, the point of the tag wasn't about the plan, it was about the
"flip flopper" aspect. The GOP sure knew how to dish that shit out, I'd like to see how well they take it. Those Wingnuts were such ASSHOLES to Kerry, I'd love to take those flip flops they make, as their elections draw near, and stick them up their asses, frankly!

6. Yup. Take 'em seriously. Play it all the way.
At the very least, popcorn sales would increase. Is that made here or in China?

7. Guys! They're SO busy! Did you read that.? How can you expect them to handle FISA and DICK
and contempt, court security, prisoner re-entry.? I haven't heard such belly aching since I had the NERVE to give a pop quiz to high school kids ON A MONDAY.

"Like What Are WE Crazy Or Something?" Do we expect these people to be able to work on many different subjects at the same time?

Maybe they could get some help with their homework. LIKE THE ENTIRE CONGRESSIONAL STAFF AT THEIR SERVICE. Not to mention any number of outside experts who actually do their homework.

Stop whining and get to WORK. Do not use the excuse of too much work to do a bad job on any of these duties. I feel an excuse coming on.

Something along the line of, "Well, we tried to do better on FISA but we compromised and got a condemnation not an impeachment,. Oh and by the way, the AT&T company and all other communication companies that have spied on you in the past, we gave them retroactive immunity. That will be all. No questions. Thank you.

13. Thank you. Prostitutes actually cheer up people some of the time
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 09:34 PM by truedelphi
The only persons Congress cheers up (usually) are Corporate Persons
like Walmart, Time and Warner, CitiBank, Halliburton, Lockheed, Kellogg
Root and Brown, Arthur Anderson, Bank of America, British Petroleum,
Standard Oil etc

8. Ok, I'm very confused. What just happened in that vote & what's this nonsense about being surprised?
Kucinich has been talking about his resolution for months, he hasn't been quiet about it either, and he announced several days ago he'd bring it to the floor today. Impeachment resolutions are not something that's hush-hush in congressional circles.

11. Sounds like the pukes are trying to set a trap
If House leadership is clever, they can turn the tables... however, I'm not optimistic Pelosi and Hoyer can (or are willing to) pull it off.

20. We should take them (the minority) at their word...

they want to allow the impeachment crowd to have their day in court. Let's hope the court isn't rigged.

21. Wonder if the republicans are banking on a Cheney heart attack.
That would make a martyr out of him, and could make the Dems look really bad.
