Steve Beshear (D) elected Governor (KY)
Source: Lexington 18 News (NBC Affiliate)

http://www.wlextv.com/global/story.asp?s=7321688

"Democratic challenger Steve Beshear has been elected as Kentucky's new governor, defeating one-term incumbent Republican Ernie Fletcher.

With 35 percent of precincts reporting, Beshear had 238,640 votes or 62 percent, to Fletcher's 144,532 votes or 38 percent.

Fletcher, the first GOP governor in more than 30 years in this predominantly Democratic state, was indicted last year on charges that connected Republicans allegedly were rewarded with jobs at the expense of Democrats.

Beshear, a Lexington attorney who served as lieutenant governor from 1983-87, reminded voters about Fletcher's scandal at every opportunity, whether in televised debates, political ads or stump speeches. Beshear made ethics a key issue in the gubernatorial race, saying Fletcher not only broke his campaign promise from four years ago to clean up Frankfort but had actually made a mess of his own."

Edited on Wed Nov-07-07 12:14 AM by Zambero
I almost forgot, Pat's putrid covering of that song was at the expense of Little Richard, the song's rightful composer who got zilch in royalties while Pat raked in the bucks. Thou shalt not steal? That admonishment apparently doesn't apply to no-talent recording "artists" like Boone or crooked politicians such as Fletcher.

38. In the 50s Little Richard's was the preferred version for us teens.
But I bought them both: Little Richard on Specialty and Pat on Dot - $.89 each!. Pat was tremendously popular and was a role model for us cool guys (at least Randy Wood sold him that way).
When my parents (proper white folks of course) were around I always went with the Pat version. And if you understand the 50s you will know why.

The Democrats didn't win this election, Ernie Fletcher lost it by being a corrupt idiot.

40. Republicans have been in the press as corrupt for years now. It won us 2006 and it continues.
And now, every other elected Republican appears to be involved in a gay sex scandal.

They have Big problems.

because "corrupt idiot" describes many Republican politicians. We can win the white house in 2008 if we put our minds to it.

11. No one on this planet could POSSIBLY do a worse job than his Republican partisan predecessor.
I'll bet Kentucky is so ready for a decent Governor. Fletcher has been a reeking scum from his very first day in office if he could attract the attention of people living nowhere near his state, just through his dirty, underhanded acts, his unceasing hostility toward Democrats, and his willingness to do ANYTHING, hurt anyone, to advance to power of his party.

Good godamned riddance.

62 percent, with 35% of the votes counted. BEAUTIFUL. Thank you, Alexander.

27. Fletcher WAS a Bush wannabe in so many ways.
Using the fear factor, the fundie angle, the anti-gay rights angle--
maybe this really is a corner being turned.

And sitting here in KY, this post on the front page of DU sure looks great!

:kick: :woohoo:

30. I really feel sorry for Pat Boone (NOT!!)
I mean here was his big chance at a comeback and he fell through the cracks. Again. Most entertainers of his caliber can at least get jobs singing at Holiday Inn lizard lounges, or the occasional octogenarian boat cruise down in Florida. Where its warm. But here he literally had captive audiences with his robo-calls denouncing gays and he blew it (no pun intended). Maybe he should have tried to convey his message with that patented smooth crooners voice. Hey! How about the singing robo-call? No?

Well, let's hope Pat keeps working for other Republicans throughout the 2008 election season and do a similar bang-up job for them as he's shown he's capable of here.

And Pat, your agent called. He's got you setup to do Bar Mitzvah's in Buffalo starting a week from Friday, throughout the whole winter. Bring your heavy coat. Oh, and the room is free but you have to get you owns meals....

CONGRATULATIONS GOVENOR-ELECT BESHEAR AND ALL OF KENTUCKY!!!

32. One last desperate move
Yesterday in a last ditch effort to get fundies to turn out and vote for him, Fletcher issued an executive order requiring that the 10 Commandments be posted at KY's state government offices. Pat Boone probably went into a full dress rapture rehearsal after hearing that news!
