Ex-UN inspector fears secret US plan to stay in Iraq
54 minutes ago

SYDNEY (AFP) - Former chief United Nations weapons inspector Hans Blix said Wednesday he feared the United States had a secret plan to keep troops in Iraq for an extended period.

Blix, who led a fruitless search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and argued against the 2003 US-led invasion, said it was possible that Washington wanted to stay in Iraq to ensure the safety of oil supplies. "One fear I would have is that the US has a hidden thought to remain in Iraq," Blix told national radio.

"One reason why they wanted in was that they felt they must leave Saudi Arabia. After the Gulf War in 1991, they left their troops in Saudi Arabia to protect pipelines," he explained. "And when they felt they could no longer stay in Saudi Arabia, Iraq was the next best place because it was more secularised than Saudi Arabia and had the second biggest oil reserves in the region."

Blix said that by staying in Iraq, the US military would also be able to keep a close eye on neighbouring Iran -- a country he said was treated differently to another state with nuclear ambitions, North Korea.

(Dar) Jamail points out that the megabases, including the huge Balad air base, are "very similar as far as amenities, and infrastructure of the base, and the size, and the number of people there as you would see in, for example, American bases in Germany, American bases in Okinawa, American bases in South Korea <snip>... these are the same types of bases that are being built in Iraq."

2. Best rationale for the war I've heard.
Clear, concise and to the point: "And when they felt they could no longer stay in Saudi Arabia, Iraq was the next best place..."

3. Let me guess - was it the military base the size of 18 football fields that was the give away?

Of course they have no plans to go anywhere.

AND, if we continue to allow them to use our children and ourselves as slaves and cannon fodder to further enrich them, then it will continue, and their next stop will be Iran along with their plans to come back here.

They are already here with their military 'bases' in New Orleans, and God forbid Southern California. We'll see how that plays out.

WTF is so secret about hundreds of thousands of mercenaries and soldiers building billions of dollars worth of bunkers to hide in, with no plans to leave during this millinium?

10. Mister Blix always one for understatement, eh?
I notice their "presse" appears no better than ours.

"Blix, who led a fruitless search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq ..."!

Damn. Talk about reporter bias--the search was not "fruitless;" his attempts to stop the impending invasion, however, were.

The search was about whether they were there or not and either answer was fine, as long as it was factual. The "fruitless" part was that bush kicked him out and shut down the fact-finding.

12. All Imperial Empires protect their Corporations with Brutal Military Force.
Tis simply the programed nature of our specie

No matter who,
the appointed figure-head 'made up' fearless leader may be,
murder and deceit will be used in pillaging the lesser humans.

Surely during our new century,
the words: "Duck and Cover"
will become fashionable again.

All part of the Bush "millions of lives for billions of barrels" program. Ensures continued oil for America while addressing the overpopulation problem.
