Ex-Publisher Says News Corp. Official Wanted Her to Lie to Protect Giuliani

Judith Regan, the book publisher who was fired by the News Corporation last year, asserts in a lawsuit filed today that a senior executive at the media conglomerate encouraged her to mislead federal investigators about her relationship with Bernard B. Kerik during his bid to become homeland security secretary in late 2004.

The lawsuit asserts that the News Corporation executive wanted to protect the presidential aspirations of former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Kerik’s mentor, who had appointed him New York City police commissioner and had recommended him for the federal post.

Ms. Regan makes the charge at the start of a 70-page filing that seeks $100 million in damages for what she says was a campaign to smear and discredit her by her bosses at HarperCollins and its parent company, the News Corporation, after her project to publish a book with O.J. Simpson was abandoned amid a storm of protest.

In the civil complaint filed in state court in Manhattan, Ms. Regan says the company has long sought to promote Mr. Giuliani’s ambitions. But the lawsuit does not elaborate on that charge, or identify the executive who she alleged pressured her to mislead investigators, nor does it offer details or evidence to back up her claim.

6. Repubs have so much nasty legal business going on right now.
Lots of arrest for crimes of a sexual nature by people who say they would never...

The Duke and Abramoff related business casts its net wide.

Hope the Democrats don't have too many of these irons in the fire.

12. More from NY Daily News
Judith Regan has secret tapes of phone calls and meetings that provide explosive evidence in her $20 million lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, sources tell us.

-----

The tapes "not only bolster her position against News Corp, but may prove damning to more than a few Fox executives," one source, who characterized the recordings as "juicy," told us.

14. O.J. publisher sues News Corp
Source: Reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Maverick book publisher Judith Regan, fired by HarperCollins last year after her O.J. Simpson book was scrapped, filed a $100 million lawsuit on Tuesday against her former employers accusing them of defamation.

The suit claims publishing house HarperCollins and parent company News Corp. used Regan's dismissal and accusations that she was fired for anti-Semitism to discredit her and ultimately protect former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, the Republican front-runner for U.S. president.

According to the lawsuit, News Corp. feared Regan might disclose damaging information about a longtime Giuliani aide who was once her lover, former New York police commissioner Bernard Kerik, which could in turn embarrass Giuliani.

Kerik was indicted last week on numerous federal corruption charges, including receiving benefits from a company suspected of links to organized crime.

20. WHERE? why they were doing in it an apartment donated for FDNY 9/11 search and rescue
Yes quite literallyl they were boinking OVER LOOKING Ground Zero in an apartment that had expressly been donated/lent to give NY fire fighters a place to rest after 12 hour shifts of LOOKING FOR THEIR DEAD COMRADES!!!

Emphasis added by me.

I'm not kidding Frank. Feel free to go ahead and bend over and let a huge blow go.

:puke:

Of course for all the outrage about her book with OJ this (even her affair with Kerik) go almost no mention.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/058421.php
Then there's Bernie Kerik. I had a kind of trip down memory lane last night reading over my posts on the K-man from December 2004 -- one of a few events in the late winter of 2004 that helps salve the pain of the election result. Anyway, one thing I realized or rather remembered was that there were so many scandals, hijinks and misdeeds Kerik had in his closet that peoples' minds quickly reached a saturation point. There was just too much to remember. For instance, you know of course that Kerik took the apartment donated by a wealthy real estate developer as a place for 9/11 relief workers to rest and used it as his own personal love shack to boff celeb book editor Judith Regan. That of course was before the other city employee he was doing there left a love note that Regan found. But did you know that after Regan bailed on him she had to get protection because Kerik was apparently stalking her and her kids? Great guy.

http://www.commondreams.org/headlines05/0314-12.htm
The News also revealed that Kerik had helped his brother and a close friend get jobs with a city contractor who was battling allegations that his company was mob controlled.

http://www.dailysentinel.com/hp/content/shared-gen/ap/National/Kerik_Investigation.html
But the nomination was confronted with news reports about stock-option windfalls, his connections with people suspected of doing business with the mob and overlapping extramarital affairs with two women: Judith Regan, the publisher of his memoir, and a city correction officer. The liaisons reportedly occurred in an apartment near ground zero that had been set aside for rescue workers.
