Sex Scandal Hits Atlanta-Area Megachurch
Source: ABC News

The 80-year-old leader of a suburban Atlanta megachurch is at the center of a sex scandal of biblical dimensions: He slept with his brother's wife and fathered a child by her.

Members of Archbishop Earl Paulk's family stood at the pulpit of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit at Chapel Hill Harvester Church a few Sundays ago and revealed the secret exposed by a recent court-ordered paternity test.

In truth, this is not the first or even the second sex scandal to engulf Paulk and the independent, charismatic church. But this time, he could be in trouble with the law for lying under oath about the affair.

The living proof of that lie is 34-year-old D.E. Paulk, who for years was known publicly as Earl Paulk's nephew.

"I am so very sorry for the collateral damage it's caused our family and the families hurt by the removing of the veil that hid our humanity and our sinfulness," said D.E. Paulk, who received the mantle of head pastor a year and a half ago.

2. The only thing that makes this o.k. is if there are no serious people who attend his church.
Apparently they aren't, if this is the kind of guy they come back to hear, Sunday after Sunday!

Rev. Earl Paulk

Earl Paulk Exposed by CNN

The most recent lawsuit filed against TBN regular Earl Paulk alleging sexual misconduct was featured on CNN’s Paula Zahn Now program on January 19, 2006. CNN correspondent David Mattingly interviewed the former church soloist of Chapel Hill Harvester Church in Decatur, Georgia, Mona Brewer who, along with her husband Bobby, filed suit against Paulk and his church in August, 2005. This is one of many victims that have surfaced and alleged that Paulk had molested them, including a woman who had been molested by Paulk since the age of 7, according to the July 2001 edition of Charisma magazine.
On Thursday’s report on CNN, Mona Brewer painted a pitiful picture of how she was conditioned to obey her pastor who goes by the title of Archbishop Earl Paulk. She had been a singer and member on the worship team in his church for ten years before Paulk made his move.

"I was just overwhelmed, because that was such a great opportunity," Brewer said to Mattingly, recalling her elation at the invitation to see Paulk in his office. It was an opportunity to spend time with the man she considered a prophet and a mouthpiece for God. "Nobody got to do that. I mean, he was awesome. I mean, everybody wanted to talk to him. And he just invited me to his office to talk to him for a few minutes. And that was really incredible."

"He said, ‘well, I guess you will just have to take your clothes off, because I'm going to have to love you.’ Whoa. And I thought, oh, God. You know, I didn't want to do it, but what choice did I have? I mean, I have been taught for all these years not to question him. And I had this word from God. I mean, God obviously wanted me to do this. And it was so foreign to me, but I -- I didn't know what else to do. I was on the spot. So, I took off my clothes, and we did it."

She went on to explain how she was at his beck and call for sexual services for the next fourteen years. Paulk shared her with members of his family and visiting charismatic preachers. Paulk excused his behavior with his own personal theology called "Kingdom Relationships." Brewer explained: "Because he said, ‘you know, the adultery issue was for the little ones.’ It was for the -- the people, the, you know, commoners. It wasn't for people who God elevated and trusted with special things like this, relationships like this. And that's the way he explained it to me."

3. Would this be a related church to all "Harvester" Churchs? Because I've got one of those near me...
...and have always wondered what sort of "church" a "Harvester Church" was.

Oh, and I just love this part! "...hurt by the removing of the veil that hid our humanity and...":eyes:

5. Makes me want to skip going to church altogether.....
First it was the priests molesting the altar boys. Now it's every other f*cking denomination either dealing with prostitutes or trying to seduce under age boys. I'm so sick of these hypocrites. I'm ready to start worshiping in my own basement, and screw these organized church lying sacks of shit.

"I am so very sorry for the collateral damage it's caused our family and the families hurt by the removing of the veil that hid our humanity and our sinfulness," said D.E. Paulk, who received the mantle of head pastor a year and a half ago.

8. I don't understand, what is the big deal here.
Religion is the longest running con game in the history of the world. As far as I can tell it started with the first forms of communication and has grown since then. The fact that these con artists still operate in the open is proof of the stupidity and gullibility of humans. And yes, I mean YOUR religion, which ever one you subscribe to, out of the untold numbers of religious cons running. Just wish I had enough "crook" in me to get in the game. Guess I have to stick with poker and remain honest.

10. I suppose they must be one of those churches...
...that preaches against this form of "immorality." D. E. Paul's statement sounds like an apology for his being born, which is kind of wacky.

I guess if you build your reputations as paragons of chastity, you can't just sweep this sort of thing under the rug--or you'd have to give everyone else a similar pass, too, and where's the fun in that?

11. Whoa, there buddy, do a little hubris lately?
These days the pirates wear suits and profess to hear the word of God whispering, it's alright, you go ahead and do what you want, the rules you espouse are not actually meant for the "elevated". No that's only for the plebes in the pews. I have to say the form stays true to it's nature. Hasn't organized religion tended this way since the time of the Pharaohs? Not put to fine a point on it, how is it that after 5 thousand years and all manner of excess, anybody buys this freaking stuff anymore?

16. Former GA state rep.
Mike Crotts of Conyers was first elected to the Senate from the 17th District in 1992 and is now beginning his third term.

Crotts, a Republican, is a member of the influential Appropriations Committee which determines state spending priorities and decides how Georgia's budget of more than $11 billion is allocated. He also serves on the Reapportionment Committee as well as the Transportation, Insurance and Labor Committee, and Banking and Financial Institutions Committee.

Crotts is the author of a 1996 law which designates English as Georgia's official language and protects city, county and state governments from being forced to conduct their official business in other languages, although they will have the option to do so.

Anti-gay former senator
can't run for old seat
Crotts' appeal to Ga.
Supreme Court is unsuccessful
ATLANTA (AP) | Jul 8, 9:23 PM

A former state senator best known for authoring an anti-gay marriage amendment cannot run to regain his old seat, the Georgia Supreme Court ruled on Friday.

The decision comes a month after Secretary of State Cathy Cox upheld a ruling by an administrative law judge who said Mike Crotts, a Republican, was not legally qualified to run for a Senate district that includes portions of Henry and Rockdale counties.

Crotts, who served in the Georgia Senate from 1993 to 2004, is best known as the chief sponsor of the state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. He left the Senate to unsuccessfully seek a U.S. House seat won by fellow Republican Lynn Westmoreland.

17. P-leeease don't forget about all the prostitutes
Yea, they're making hay with friends, relatives, neighbors, friends of neighbors, etc. ad nausium. All the while, wearing expensive suits, fancy watches, Gucci shoes and imploring you for more money. They've just brought pan handling out of the streets and put a roof over it.

As for the fornication, let them boink like little bunnies. It keeps them busy and away from politics where they can screw millions, instead of one person at a time.

As for Preachers and prostitutes, birds of a feather... At least the prostitute is being honest about what their way of earning a living.

Just a quick comment, why not put a morality clause in the 501c non-tax status and make it retroactive to the date of the incident. That would help solve some of our mounting national debt. This Mega church would owe at least 34 years of back taxes... well, 34 years and 9 months...

Heck, if there was a morality clause, the catholic church would have erased our national debt. That's what I would call a true Faith Based initiative...
