Report: U.S. Attorney taps Ashcroft's firm for big money deal
Source: Newsday

TRENTON, N.J. - The law firm of former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft is set to collect more than $52 million to help the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey monitor leading manufacturers of knee and hip replacements.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reported for Tuesday's newspapers that Ashcroft is among five private attorneys whom U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie hand-picked to monitor the implant makers.

Christie worked under Ashcroft from 2002 to 2005

Ashcroft's Washington, D.C.-based firm is poised to collect more than $52 million in 18 months, the newspaper reported.

1. Doesn't that sound a little steep for monitoring replacement manufacturers?

7. naw - that's only 2.8 million a month
That's hiring 'experts' to tell them what they are looking for; labs owned by 'experts to test the product; 'expert' inspectors to fly to china every few months to make certain the lead in the replacement parts is below government standards....see it's expensive to keep all your 'expert' cronies on the payroll.

2. I guess they figger they better make it now.
After Jan '08 it may be harder for Fascisti to get contracts like that.

Hell, Ashcroft's firm is probly being paid by both sides. There is no conflict of interest because both the Gov't and the industry want the same thing--they want the industry left alone to make its profits however it can.

3. Have they tried outsourcing this to India?
Because $52 million sounds a little steep. Maybe they should replace "In God We Trust" on our coins with "Cronyism is very, very lucrative bidness." But, that wouldn't fit. They could try "eff you" or "I've got mine." That'll fit. BTW, cronyism is NOT, I repeat NOT organized crime. It's more like a loose affiliation of folks helping each other get rich while destroying government. It's a public service, really.

4. They're so brazen
They're not even trying to hide the cronyism and corruption.

5. Is this Open-Source Bribery?

What human citizen can pay 52 million to 'monitor' the law's dealing with the citizen? Even the upper 1% couldn't afford this, they only make about $1 mil per year. Maybe 0.00003% of the population, that's the Top 400. Everyone else is screwed.

6. How could that possibly cost $52 million dollars? I'll hire a few people and do it for a mere
$10 million and that includes me moving to NJ!!
