(CNN) -- Planes crisscrossing the East Coast will have access to military airspace Wednesday afternoon, a handy accommodation as fog and winter weather threaten to make one of the busiest travel days of the year even more tedious.

Thousands of square miles of airspace usually reserved for the military will become available to commercial airliners at 4 p.m. ET, but it will be up to the Federal Aviation Administration to decide whether to use it.

The FAA was reporting minimal delays across the nation as of noon Wednesday.

President Bush last week ordered the FAA and Defense Department to open the airspace, which the White House says will create "Thanksgiving express lanes." The FAA will have the option to use the airspace through Sunday night.

1. Bush makes some worthless policy change to help the not yet
delays of Thanksgiving and CNN does nonstop airport coverage covering the arrival/departure boards? I've never seen such ridiculous coverage of a non story driven by a nothing President.

.......it's the amount of space at the airports........STUPID!!!!

quote from article...."However, Patrick Forrey of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association said last week that the extra airspace won't matter because the number of runways and air traffic controllers is the same."

.....just more smoke up the a$$ is all this story is about...I work in SOC operations for NWA and I to am laughing my arse off...this is the biggest fluff piece of the year. If the country's corporations would spread their offices out a little more around the U.S.A they would have as much ATC issues in the NE..
