6 workers injured in fuel-tank blast
By Steve Liewer

SAN DIEGO – The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has started its own investigation of a Nov. 10 explosion and fire aboard a Navy ship in San Diego, instead of delegating the matter to the affected shipyards.

Since then, federal officials have confirmed that they're probing why the explosion occurred in a fuel tank aboard the cruiser Lake Champlain. The ship was in dry dock at the BAE yard on Harbor Drive at Sampson Street.

Six workers were injured, and one remains in critical condition with severe burns at UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest.
