Two arrested in ‘Baby Grace’ case
Officials believe Texas girl who washed ashore in bin is couple’s daughter

updated 25 minutes ago

DALLAS - A couple who never reported that their toddler went missing this summer have been arrested by investigators searching for the identity of a girl whose body washed ashore in a storage bin in Galveston Bay.

Authorities are awaiting DNA test results but believe the girl is 2-year-old Riley Ann Sawyers of Spring, said Galveston County sheriff’s Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo.

The girl’s mother, Kimberly Dawn Trenor, 19, and Royce Clyde Zeigler II, 24, reportedly told relatives that she was taken in July by someone claiming to be an Ohio social worker. But they never told police she was missing, Tuttoilmondo said.

After police searched their suburban Houston home, they were arrested early Saturday and charged with injury to a child and tampering with evidence, Tuttoilmondo said. The couple remain jailed in lieu of $350,000 bail each.

Very sad case. I'm glad that it appears they have discovered who the child is and people have been arrested.

2. It was on the news the other night
The girl's grandmother and father talking about that they think it's her. The actual photo of her, is a close representation to the artist's sketch.

My family and I were wondering where the mother was in all this. It's just sad really.

4. Yes, the artist sketch is remarkable
Ah, she was such a precious adorable little girl. Very sad story.

Here's another picture of her w/ the drawing.

13. She is much cuter in the photo, I must say.
There was a DU discussion a few weeks ago that focused solely on how homely the sketch was.
As it turned out, the drawing was actually pretty accurate, only not as cute. The sketch was great for ID purposes.

10. I remember a DU thread when that sketch came out.
A lot of people thought it was kind of cartoonish. One person made a comment that when a missing body is found, the resemblance to the sketch is remarkable.I respect the artists who do this kind of work.

5. She was probably murdered by the mother's new husband.
Domestic violence is a nightmare in this country. I wish that young women could break free of the expectation that they must marry men instead of first living healthy, self-sufficient, independent lives.

6. Or they were both in on it
And the mother felt that the girl was "holding her back." There are some fucked up people out there.

7. That's possible, but I think it's more likely that she was murdered during a rage.

8. The articles I have read on this
all say that the family members were told that a caseworker came and took the little girl away. If I were this woman's mom, the little girl's grandmother, I would have been in contact with them to see what they needed to do and what I could do to help them get the little girl back!

This is incredibly sad.

11. I went to my brother's house for Thanksgiving.
Edited on Mon Nov-26-07 01:22 PM by swimmernsecretsea
When I arrived, he let me know that a close friend of my niece, his daughter, was staying there because her mother and her mother's boyfriend didn't want her around. Worse, her birthday had been a few days before, and she spent it at my brother's house. What pain it must be for this child to feel that during that time of the year, especially. We all had a wonderful holiday, and everyone there was happy she could share the day with all of us.

So many children, rejected or abused. It's as Dorothy Allison wrote once, "a river of pain."
