Giuliani wants US to promote democracy
Source: AP-Yahoo!

BEDFORD, N.H. - Republican Rudy Giuliani said Monday the reputation of the United States has suffered globally not so much because of arrogant actions but for lack of salesmanship about benefits of democracy.

If he is elected president, he said, he would seek ambassadors who would work hard to sell U.S. strengths to foreigners, not just explain those distant nations to Washington.

Giuliani, who is making a late push in the first primary state, also rekindled a dispute with rival Mitt Romney, accusing the former governor of neighboring Massachusetts of presiding over a crime surge while in office.

"I think Mitt kind of runs away from his record as governor," Giuliani said, a day after the two candidates clashed over Romney's appointment of a judge who later freed a convicted killer who went on to murder a pair of newlyweds.

Giuliani looking to promote democracy is like (the late) John Gotti preaching about strict law enforcement. Go figure.

1. Democracy Begins At Home
Right in the nuclear family--husband and wife. Think Rudy failed that part of the test...

2. "work hard to sell U.S. strengths"
if you have to give foreigners the hard sell, your selling snake oil. Such is the 'liberation' sold abroad by the US. :-(

3. Because that approach has worked so well in the past???
What an idiot. Ambassadorships are prizes given to big money donors. The heavy lifting is usually done by the Number Two on the team.

Of course, Bush calls an 'ambassador' those kids in camo schlepping up and down in a poorly up-armored HUMVEE...that tactic was a real 'winner' in changing heartsand minds.

Well, he's increased his repertoire, at any rate. It's not JUST "911" now--it's "911 and CRIME!!!!" Gee, wonder what the friends and family of Amadou Diallo have to say about that new approach....

Here's what Michael MOORE thought of Rudy's cops, keeping the NYC population "safe"--African American Wallet Exchange: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJwI66ifjPc

4. Shall the leopard change its spots?
I don't think so. This is one more not-so-subtle political ploy, and not even a very good one. Rudy should stick to what he knows (ie. nothing).

7. really, i'm sorry
Edited on Mon Nov-26-07 11:42 AM by boricua79
but I doubt other world leaders are habitual cross-dressers. That really takes my liberalism "live and let live" philosophy to its extreme. I'd rather not hav the leader of our nation be a Marylin Monroe look-alike.

Is that asking for much!?

besides, 2 party system is barley democracy... 2 stolen elections and a corrupt as fuck system.. GO TEAM U.S!

10. Methinks it would be neat if the US would BEGIN to promote democracy
INSIDE the US first...

The last seven years' promotion of extreme corpo-fascism, coupled with corpo-communism for the richest of the already-rich only is destroying the planet faster than any scientific report can measure...

12. What does "democracy" mean? Then I'll agree.
Is it freedom to use one's God-given talents to prosper? Again, a little more clarification is needed, but I'm certainly not against the notion... but does this "free market" disallow some people to prosper because there's a glut in said market and there's no other place to go?

"Free market" is a semi-misnomer; how can something so chaotic be a form of structure?
