Scottish local authorities reject Donald Trump golf course plan
Source: AP

EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) - A local council in Scotland on Thursday rejected a plan by Donald Trump to build "the world's greatest golf course" on a stretch of remote and stunning coastline that is home to some of the country's rarest birds.

Aberdeenshire Council's infrastructure services committee rejected plans for the Trump International Golf Links after a tie-breaking vote from the committee chair. An initial vote was a 7-7 deadlock.

. . .

The vote is the latest hurdle in Trump's four-year odyssey to turn a stretch of sand dunes north of Aberdeen into a 1 billion pound (US$2.1 billion) golf resort complete with two 18-hole courses, a luxurious 450-bedroom hotel, 950 vacation homes, 36 golf villas and 500 upscale homes costing from 400,000 pounds (US$827,000) to more than 1 million pounds ( US$2.1 million) each.

1. What's the big deal about Scottish golf courses?
Once I played at one called the Tribute near Dallas. Each hole is modeled after a famous one in Scotland. Damned thing was like a moonscape. Some of the sand traps were so humongous you had to use a ladder to get out.

:wtf:

3. Good! I am tired of hearing about GD Trump.
He thinks he has the right to do as wants. Go to hell! Stay off other people's land, you bastard!

4. The Donald is in a big fight with Palm Beach Intl. Airport over their
plans to expand. The flight patterns for the planes leaving the airport fly directly over Mar-A-Lago and from what I understand, some of the jet fuel debris or mist, falls onto the umbrellas, lawns, etc. He's been fighting with them for years but I think the FAA is going to give the airport the go ahead for the expansion. Hahahha, he really is a control freak, no doubt of it.

5. Interestingly, the councillors didn't always follow what you might think were their party lines
Alastair Ross, the Liberal Democrat member for Huntly, moved it should be refused. He claimed the committee was being asked to ignore planning rules to build 500 homes "for the rich" at a time when the council was struggling to supply desperately needed affordable homes for local residents.
...
Marcus Humphrey, a Conservative councillor from Deeside, said: "We highly value our natural heritage and, as a creator of a national nature reserve myself, I know how important it is that we act as guardians of this spectacular heritage for future generations.

"This application involves the stabilisation of a dynamic sand-dune system which has been designated as an SSSI (site of special scientific interest) for statutory protection. The system would have to be stabilised and grassed over.

"The proposals for 500 executive houses should be rejected because of the huge strain they would put on services ... we simply cannot have one law for individual small developments and another for a big development."

While two independent councillors are quoted as backing Trump. It's good to see a Conservative thinking about conservation.

7. Scotland and Ireland have WONDERFUL coastlines...

Would be a shame to build giant hotels and golf courses there.
The small and comfy "bed&breakfasts" are way cooler and friendlier.
