"God Delusion" publisher may face prosecution
Source: Reuters

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - The publisher of the Turkish edition of Richard Dawkins' bestseller "The God Delusion" could face prosecution after a complaint that it insulted believers.

A reader of the atheist manifesto had complained that it was insulting to Muslims, Christians and Jews, publisher Erol Karaaslan said after speaking to the prosecutor on Thursday.

"A Turkish citizen complained, saying that this book was hurtful to members of religions living in Turkey, and wanted the book banned and the publishers punished," Karaaslan told Reuters.

His company Kuzey Publications has printed 6,000 copies of the Oxford biologist's book, adding to some 30 foreign editions of what has become a bestseller in the United States, Britain, Germany and Italy.

12. There's no such thing as 'athiest' in a theocracy
Two choices; believer or heretic.

2. I want to know who this hurts. WHO? Oh yeah, and HOW exactly were they hurt? I'd also like to
know how the teddy bear named Muhammed hurts people. If anyone knows who these amazingly weak minded people are I would love to meet them. Then I can point them out to my children as what not to be or who to be with...

3. Yes, and we all know believers have a divine right
to go through their entire lives without being offended by anything at all.

This one will get laughed out of court. I'm surprised they found a lawyer to take the case, but perhaps the lawyer is one of those Regent grads who is terribly offended by the existence of atheists who write books about it.

10. This is in Turkey, not the USA
Turkey is officially secular but religious issues remain highly sensitive in the overwhelmingly Muslim country, which is also home to small, historic Christian and Jewish communities.

Writers and publishers are regularly investigated and prosecuted in Turkey under laws restricting freedom of expression.

So it's by no means guaranteed to get dismissed.

4. Hey Turkey... got EU membership?
No? Not gonna get it, either.

All deliberate attempts to revert back to the Dark Ages shall be punishable by denial of entrance into the EU. Suck it, religion!

Then again the Ottomans carved out quite a nice empire for themselves back then...

9. It IS insulting to believers
It calls them gullible and credulous and deluded. These are insults.

Whereas thinking that a perfect god would create a world where nonbelievers should burn in hellfire for eternity is quite a compliment to us.

15. Even a typically immoral hedonistic atheist like me is not that cruel
But I must admit I did think it would be fun to insist on being cremated in a "hot enough for ya?" T shirt just in case....
