Iraqi PM seeks handover of ex-Saddam aides
Source: UPI

BAGHDAD, Nov. 30 Iraq's prime minister is seeking custody of three men sentenced to death for their involvement in the genocide of the Kurds during Saddam Hussein's regime.

A spokesman for the Iraqi government said Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has sent a message through diplomatic channels to U.S. President George Bush asking the United States to hand over the trio, the Kuwait news agency KUNA reported Friday.

In the cable, Maliki said legal aspects of agreements between the two sides don't permit the United States to retain custody of the men.

The three, all ex-aides of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, were sentenced to death for their role in the Al-Anfal genocide of the Kurds in the 1980s.

Maliki is attempting to turn up the heat on getting these three to the executioner. Since Bush hasn't complied thus far I wonder why Maliki thinks he will now?
