Musharraf: Bhutto is responsible for own death
Source: MSNBC

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf conceded that a gunman may have shot Benazir Bhutto but said the opposition leader exposed herself to danger and bore responsibility for her death, CBS News said on Saturday.

Musharraf was also quoted as telling the CBS "60 Minutes" program to be broadcast on Sunday that his government did everything it could to provide security for Bhutto, who was killed last week in a gun and suicide-bomb attack after a political rally.

"For standing up outside the car, I think it was she to blame alone. Nobody else. Responsibility is hers," Musharraf said in the interview taped on Saturday morning.

I guess he's saying that if she hadn't tried to oppose him, she'd still be alive today.

3. Well, sure, but by a gun that Bhutto bought herself.
Then she hired a team of crack commandos to make it look like Musharraf was involved and thus win the election in a groundswell of sympathy. :sarcasm:

If you look at that video real close, over and over again, you can see that she shot herself, blew herself up, AND purposely slammed her head into the handle! Gotta hand it to her, it was a real professional job!

15. Zardari: "I begged my Bibi to avoid murder rally"
THE night before Benazir Bhutto’s tragic assassination, her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, had begged her on the phone to stop holding election rallies and let him take her place.

“She had just addressed this public meeting in Peshawar where they’d caught this suicide bomber,” he said. “I told her, for God’s sake be careful, but she said, ‘What can I do? I have to go and meet my people.’ I pleaded with her: you stay home and I’ll go do the rallies. You’re the mother.
“I always used to tell her that as long as the queen bee is alive we workers will always live . . . but I guess it wasn’t so . . .”

His voice trailed off. That telephone call was to be the couple’s last conversation.

“It was such a shock,” he said. “After she survived the Karachi bus bombing , we were all of the opinion that she was Superwoman and could survive anything, but it turns out she wasn’t.”

21. You could say the same about JFK
If I recall correctly, his car had a bullet-proof bubble that he chose to not use. In practice, a politician in a democratic country can't really avoid these risks, especially during an election campaign.

18. In related news,
the US is extremely frustrated and upset about losing their "golden Girl" in the assassination.
Washington had been trying to fix the explosive situation in Pakistan by bringing in Ms. Bhutto.
Now she is dead, and we are stuck with Musharraf.

He's a bastard, but by God he's OUR bastard.

'Honestly! I had no choice!' The dictator said while accepting a giant sack of cash from President George W. Bush.

25. Sure let's blame the victim in typical
dictator style. Musharraf needs to be investigated by the UN, the Hague, or whichever international body is willing to defy the Bush administration in spite of their cozy relationship with Musharref to get to the bottom of this.

26. would he also blame Pope John Paul II for getting shot?
I'd like to see this Musharraf creep show up at the Vatican and tell Pope Benedict that John Paul was responsible for getting shot by Agca. I suppose if Musharraf's enemies finally get him (a matter of time), he will have no one to blame but himself.
