Bill Clinton targets media coverage of Obama
Source: CNN

Posted: 01:40 PM ET Watch Bill Clinton's comments Monday night.

(CNN) – On the eve of the New Hampshire primary, former President Bill Clinton criticized the media for not pressing Barack Obama more fully on Iraq, and accused the Illinois senator of shifting his position to reflect changing attitudes on the war.

"It is wrong that Senator Obama got to go through 15 debates trumpeting his superior judgment and how he had been against the war in every year, enumerating the years, and never got asked one time, not once, 'Well, how could you say that when you said in 2004 you didn't know how you would have voted on the resolution? You said in 2004 there was no difference between you and George Bush on the war," Clinton said at a campaign stop in Hanover, New Hampshire.

"And you took that speech you're now running on off your Web site in 2004. And there's no difference in your voting record and Hillary's ever since."

He added, "Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen."

So here, exposed, is the strategy, since going major negative will not work. I don't think this is going to work either. The tsunami is coming. But don't count your chickens before they are hatched.

1. Not sure the Clintons want to focus on the Iraq war--it's not her strong suit.

2. Calling him a *Fairy Tale* is cheap and reeks of worried desperation.
Hillary would be wise to put a muzzle on him.

3. Well Hillary pulled out the "fear" card the other day with Al Qaeda:
Trying to do the thing that Obama is too inexperienced to handle a terrorist attack like she could. Doing what she criticized the republicans for doing.

5. I have to say that I agree with Bill, Obama has not been nearly
as clear on the issues as he should be by now. My heart is with Edwards, but I respect all of our candidates. I am equally respectful of their respective spouses. I feel like Obama wants to send a message of change, but just how is he going to bring it about and what are his individual stances on each of the issues? I don't see where they concentrate on those at all. I think Obama is a great speaker, why isn't he doing this? His wife is great too, but so is Bill & Elizabeth.

I think as dems, we have much to be poud of. Get the message out, Obama.

But in the end, I hope all of you will be like me, and support Edwards who has not only told us how he's going to bring about change, he has done it, not just with words but by example! No more lobbyist influence peddling, no more selling out the American people or the American dream!

Edwards all the way, put an end to corporatism!

17. Please, impeachment is just for Edwards to address, and maybe
there is some logic to getting the conviction aftewards, maybe it can actually translate to jail time which is just what these criminals deserve. Where was HRC on this? WHere was Obama on this?
Wake up, Edwards didn't make nor did he break any impeachment effort.

22. I KNOW Edwards will fight for the middle class. I really don't see Obama kicking GOP ass
His current stance seems to be more like kissing up to GOP in order to 'get along' and have 'comity' to use the old impeachment day's term the GOP liked to toss around.

Obama's naive.

6. It will be another disappointment
Remember how much hope we all had in Pelosi and Reid? Well, the same thing is going to happen with Obama, and I do like him but I don't think he is ready.

His record, if you care to look at it, is shady (to say the least), he has been covering his behind from day one voting "present" (null) to avoid stepping on anyone's side. Its all calculated and if anyone has any time can you explain what "Hope" and "Change" he is talking about? or is it "Hope" that there will be "Change" and most of us don't get it? and with "Change" I mean "POSITIVE CHANGE".

I believe all the Obama supporters are setting themselves for a hard landing as the guy is a good salesman but has not proved himself beyond that.

Also, this hate for the Clintons, can anyone point out a better era for the USA than the eight years Bill Clinton was president?

I have always loved the Clinton Family but they are showing a side that I didn't know was there.

Shame on them.

11. I guess Hillary wasn't at the 15 debates. If she was, she could have brought it up.
What am I missing here? Earth to Bill - having the name Clinton isn't a free pass.

12. The rest of us bitch because
the msm doesn't report on anything at any time and that none of the politicians tell the truth at any time. I'm sick to death of politics as usual.

Now that she is not in the lead it's bitch, bitch, bitch, Come to think of it it was bitch all along.

13. Agreed.
Wouldn't say it in such harsh terms, but it's clear that the public sees Obama as a fresh face with fresh ideas. I know that is palpable, but check out his ratings on this page nonetheless -- http://www.fittobepres.com. Amazing. You think those ratings are legit?

18. It's kind of sad to see what has become of Clinton
A good, but not extraordinary president, a decent ex-president working to combat AIDS...

Instead he's descended into someone hanging out with the illegitimate president's father, claiming they'll both "heal" the wounds that man's son has caused (immediately rebuffed by the other man - after all why would he condemn his own son's actions?). Now he is nothing more than an attack dog for an obviously confused and stunned spouse.

Hey Bill, after seeing the company you've kept (including making an appearance honoring Murdoch or FN), blaming this on the media isn't flying. Your team had EVERY advantage in the world, rode VERY high in the polls, and you've squandered it. Hillary is incredibly sharp, but she couldn't sense that being inauthentic would turn people off.

21. The Big Dog Is Barking Up The Wrong Tree

Brand Clinton was the best we could get elected back then.

I hate to think what the country would be like now had we not had him for 8 years.

But the country has grown sick of the GOP and we can now get somebody elected who will not only stop the bleeding and stabilize the patient, but maybe even work on returning it to health.

Brand Clinton is not up to that. Too conservative for these times.

23. Quit harping about clinton
Clinton gave us the best economy of our lifetime, now you Obamaites want to smear him. You are setting yourselves for a big failure if Obama gets the nomination. He lacks foreign experience, and as another poster pointed out, we are still waiting to hear from Obama how he intends to straighten out this mess the booshies have gotten us into. You will be trading one yes man(bush) for another yes man(Obama) who will expect his staff to help call the shots because he doesn't have the knowledge to do so himself.
