MANCHESTER, N.H. - John McCain was leading Mitt Romney in New Hampshire's Republican primary, early returns showed Tuesday. On the Democrats' side, Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton battled in a race that was too close to call.

Even before the voting ended at 8 p.m. EST, there were reports of possible changes in staff and strategy in Clinton's campaign.

Hillary is in the lead with 40% to Obama's 34% with 30% of the vote counted at 9:06 EST according the the ABC website.

4. Good news so far.

Way too early for Clinton to be out of the race, or perceived to be. Not good. Rooting for Edwards, like Obama, but happy to see Clinton ahead in this one.

It is quite a mandate only being 3% ahead. In essence that is a tiny margin.

Hey, at 9:32 CNN just flashed Hillary 39%, Obama 37%. OK, now down to 2% points.

9:30 p.m. | Digging Into the Numbers On the Democratic side, the good news for Mr. Obama can be found in places like Portsmouth, a more affluent, sea-coast town. All precincts there are in and he�s got a healthy win: 42 percent to 35 percent for Mrs. Clinton. Other towns where he would be expected to win, the college areas, the more affluent areas � Durham, Lebanon, Peterborough � have zero results so far. Look for the race to even up when those returns come in. In Keene, wiht four of five precincts in, Mr. Obama is ahead, with 41 percent to 30.
