Bush Urges End To Israeli 'Occupation'
Source: Reuters

January 11, 2008 - 6:41AM

US President George W Bush is urging an end to "the occupation" of the West Bank and wants a treaty to be signed within a year to create a Palestinian state.

The United States rarely uses the politically charged word "occupation" to describe Israel's hold on lands captured in a 1967 war. It is a term Palestinians seeking a state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip employ frequently to describe their plight.

"The establishment of the state of Palestine is long overdue. The Palestinian people deserve it," Bush said in a statement he read to reporters in a Jerusalem hotel.

Bush's language, after he travelled to the West Bank city of Ramallah past Israeli checkpoints and settlements, could cause political pain to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, whose right-wing coalition partners usually bridle at such remarks.

"There should be an end to the occupation that began in 1967," Bush said. He had earlier met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and visited Bethlehem, also in the West Bank.

3. meh.........
an occupation is an occupation is an occupation.

The six day war was a blatant land grab, and Israel has been grabbing ever since. It's wrong, but they've harped on that "security" thing so long that it's been forgotten that the only reason Israel hasn't been called to account is the support of the US.

5. The wires must have crossed.
Holy shit the Neocons will kill him before Alqaida does. It would actually earn respect from me if he converted to Islam.

I almost busted a gut laughing at the thought of Paul Wolfowitz waiting outside the Oval Office, waiving a baseball bat!

8. The headline I saw was, "Bush Urges End to Occupation"
For a second or two I thought that maybe Bush was talking about HIS occupation. Of Iraq, that is.

9. One last desperate attempt
to make it like the bastard at least did one fucking thing right. He is clearly doing anything he can to have something his presidency stands for other than illegal invasions based on lies, tax breaks for the rich while the working class and poor suffer even more, wiretapping Americans, Gitmo, torture, Katrina, Gonzales, sheer idiocy and incompetence, lies and more lies...I mean is it really that surprising he actually is trying...I mean really trying to do something positive? He knows he will go down as the worst president this nation has ever had to endure. Now he's scramblin to try and save some shred of respect.

This is so transparent...fuck you Bush. Fuck you and your criminal administration. May you all rot in hell.

12. It's all about Legacy baby...Legacy!!
Of course...since * Junior doesn't pay attention to History it takes more than 1 year out of 8 to get the Israelies and Palastenians talking. Cause see there's the planning.....etc...location....etc...

Now the thing that could throw it for a loop is if * made some ridiculous deal with Israel to let's say..........hmmm starting a war with Iran....(maybe some boats approaching American ships in a waterway)? Just sayin..

13. U.S. presidents pretend they want middle east peace in the last year of their administration
They talk big, then it all goes poof (for one reason or another).

Sorry to sound cynical, but that's been my experience.
