Nevada Supreme Court Gets Appeal in Kucinich Debate Dispute

The Nevada Supreme Court was considering an appeal Tuesday from NBC Universal Inc. to overturn a judge's decision that Dennis Kucinich must be included in a debate of the Democratic presidential candidates on MSNBC. The network argued that a Clark County District Court judge lacked jurisdiction to order the cable TV news network to include the Ohio congressman or pull the plug on broadcasting the debate Tuesday night with Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards.

"Mr. Kucinich's claim ... undermines the wide journalistic freedoms enjoyed by news organizations under the First Amendment," Las Vegas lawyer Donald Campbell said in a filing submitted to Nevada's high court, which hears all state appeals.

The state Supreme Court made no immediate ruling, and no hearing was immediately scheduled, a court clerk said. Jeremy Gaines, a spokesman for MSNBC, said the cable network also was awaiting a decision from the court. He declined further comment.

4. OK, it was wrong for MSNBC to go back on their contract
But this little guy seems to have trouble realizing that he is not the choice of a sizable number of Democrats. He was invited to all of the pre-primary debates; he has name recognition, but yet no endorsements from fellow members of Congress. He has never won a primary or a caucus in 2004 and 2008. He only placed second in a few contests in 2004 when all the other Democrats had dropped out. He never polls higher than 2% nationally, and anti-war voters seem to have cast their lot with Obama and Edwards, just as they did with Howard Dean in 2004.

Because MSNBC went back on their word, I think they have to let him in this time, but maybe Dennis needs to do some soul searching and understand that he is not the right messenger for his cause.

5. Kucinich is unknown to a sizable number of Democrats
It kind of makes it hard for them to choose him.

9. Says you and MSNBC. As the poster above stated, most people do not even know who
Kucinich is. And that is deliberate on the part of the media and others.

7. "The wide journalistic freedoms..."
... to promote their own candidates and screw everyone else.

I'm all for freedom of the press. I think, however, that public resources (the airwaves) should not be reserved for the exclusive agenda of a very tiny handful of extremely rich men.
