Bernie Ward Fired – For Now

The I-Team has learned that KGO Radio fired host Bernie Ward, effective at the end of 2007. He no longer works for the station. Ward has been off the air since he was indicted on federal child pornography charges last month – he admits downloading images from the internet and trading them with people he met on-line. His attorneys have said Ward was doing research for a book at the time.

KGO Radio General Manager Micky Luckoff tells me the station took the action against Ward before knowing full details of the case, and that he wants him back on the air soon. Luckoff believes Ward’s explanation that he downloaded and traded child porn as research for a book: “Technically, it’s against the law. He admitted what he did. There’s no reason to believe he’s a pedophile.” Luckoff adds that Ward’s arrest “hit us like a ton of bricks.” Luckoff says Ward and his attorneys have assured him that the talk show host’s involvement with child porn is confined to the three incidents outlined in the federal complaint.

... Ward and Luckoff will meet after the next court appearance January 24th, and he may be back on the air soon very soon. Luckoff tells me would hire him back, even before a possible trial wraps up: “We really value Bernie. He’s a very capable on-air talent.”

claim decades. I live in Ga. so I listen via the net, and I didn't have that option that long ago. I miss him too, and I'm, positive he did this innocently. I really hope he comes back on KGO soon, but if not that station, I sure hope he comes on SOME station that streams their audio!

He admitted that he tried to use the images to entrap conservative Repukes. That's how he got caught.

Whether that was a noble cause or not is debatable.

He was at his place of employment and whether it was legitimate research or not what he was downloading was 1)illegal 2)just not appropriate to download at work.

Now if he is a thorn in the side of the Retuglicans I would not be surprised if they went after him to destroy him.

I just can't believe the charges.

I take Bernie at his word.

he is being targetted for his anti-Bush and anti-Priest-Pedophile agenda. It disgusts me to think of the sick individuals who are benefitting from Bernie being out of power. If not KGO, I hope he finds another venue on the Left Coast so I can hear him.. KGO has been great, they've done what they could. Ray and John and Karel and Brian and Christine and Gil and omg even Bill.. realized he was being treated unfairly. I hope they continue to the best of their ability to defend an UNCONVICTED man who was a host on their station for three decades, who defined what it meant to be CHARITABLE.

I have listened to Uncle Bernie for years. This smacks of the shit that Karl rove pulls. Bernie we will be friends until you steal my donut, then its over. God bless you and your family.

I wish Bernie and his family well.

he's been suspended with pay since November.
I was horrified when i found the details.
I believe Bernie and this feels very politically motivated.
Bernie has always been the reasonable voice of the left imho.
I have always liked how Bernie is the best example of why we should be "liberal" and follow the examples in the bible, of what Jesus wanted us to do, "whatever you do for the least of your brothers and sister, you do for me.
I was very anti-religion, especially Christianity, and Bernie fixed my faith, as it were. I, personally, try to follow what is in the gospels, and that's it. the rest of the "new testament" is mostly written by saul, who was clearly OUT OF HIS FUCKING MIND! and Armageddon is just plagiarism with a healthy dose of LSD. (if you read in the old testament, Ezekiel, I think, you find nearly the same wording as Armageddon).

But my faith in humanity was revived by listening to Bernie.

Being in Holland I have a hard time catching him, and the 'archive' shows are poorly produced (5 minutes of dead air, as they dont include the commercials, or in-studio banter)

But I always value his opinions, especially around election time, which makes his arrest even more suspicious.

Having sat on a federal grand jury and had to go through child porn cases personally, the words in bold indicate 2 things.

1)By trading the photos (i.e. uploading the pics to other people's computers/servers), this was no book research. The Feds got him on distribution. If he WAS "researching" he put the lives of children in serious jeopardy and should be punished.

2)It is my belief he is a pedophile.

I'm sorry to say it but having been forced to look at child porn in a courtroom and listen to some seriously gut-wrenching live testimony, anyone who gets involved with this shit is a sick, sick person.
