Texas Supreme Court Justice (R) Is Embroiled in an Arson Case

HOUSTON — A Texas Supreme Court justice and his wife were charged on Thursday in an arson fire that destroyed their suburban Houston home last June, the judge’s lawyer said.

But in a bizarre reversal, prosecutors plan on Friday to seek dismissal of the indictments against the justice, David M. Medina, and his wife, Francisca, said the lawyer, Terry W. Yates.

Justice Medina, 49, a Republican appointed in 2004 by Gov. Rick Perry to fill a vacancy and elected to a six-year term in 2006, was indicted by a county grand jury on one count of tampering and fabricating physical evidence, and Mrs. Medina on one count of arson, Mr. Yates said.

It appeared, the lawyer said, that a grand jury had voted the indictments precipitously over the objection of prosecutors.

District Attorney Charles A. Rosenthal Jr., who has been fending off calls for his resignation over amorous e-mail messages to his executive secretary and other sexually explicit and racially charged messages, issued no statement.

The story hints at the idea the DA was being blackmailed, IMO.

2. OF COURSE The Loyal Bushie prosecutor advised the Grand Jury not to indict the Repuke!
We have to make sure this gets on Waxman's radar screen.

Charles A. Rosenthal Jr., the district attorney of Harris County, Tex., which includes Houston and has accounted for 100 executions since 1976, said the Texas capital justice system was working properly.
